I just installed the hotrod Magic Lantern firmware that runs along side the Canon firmware on my EOS 60D. Very cool for HDR, lets me burst up to 9 frames in 1EV increments. I tried it, it really does smooth out those HDR images.

No, I haven't. I almost never feel the need to shoot video, even when I had a nice dedicated HD video camera. I know it's a cool feature of ML, but I doubt I'll use it.

I'm tempted to install it on my 7d but I'm nervous. Is it reversible? Have you looked into dslr controller app for android based tablets and phones?

It's reversible easily, you just format the memory card. It uses the standard Canon format menu, but gives you the choice to reformat the card and keep Magic Lantern installed, or format the card and remove Magic Lantern. Once you've done that there is no trace of Magic Lantern on your camera.

I looked at the dslr controller app, but it seems unsupported on my HTC Inspire 4G even though it is a rooted Android phone. And I would have to buy a USB host cable just to see if it works. Not worth it to me, and Magic Lantern does soooo much more, for free.

Thanks Michael. I'm going to do some more research on Magic Lantern.

According to the Wiki, they don't have it working on the 7D yet. http://magiclantern.wikia.com/wiki/7D_support (external link)

Used it for some months on my 60d, some small snags like reduced shooting-speed - but really useful for more than 3 bracketed shots. Tried out focus-bracketing, but could not make that feature working.

Anyone have a direct download link to the version for the 5D2? They don't make it easy to find on their wiki site. I'm not interested in ML for video, but I'd be interested in checking out the multiple bracketing feature.

Thanks.

They have two different versions for your camera depending on what Canon firmware you have installed. Looks like the beta version is closed.

EDIT: Well, sorry, I can't find a way to actually download it. Downloading the unified version for the 60D was easy, but they have lots of download links for the 5DII versions that don't seem to lead anywhere where you can download it. Very strange!

Thanks for confirming what I was encountering. It seems the links just run you around in circles.

I got to break down and do this. I have had it downloaded and ready for about 3 months. But it says to reset everything to stock. I have my settings tweeked way to far to make it an easy thing to let happen. I know it will be worth it when it is all done. But I just dont want to have to reset all the settings.

Thanks. I assume I need the 2.0.8.fir file which I was able to download. The instructions say I also need to place the magiclantern.cfg file in the root directory of the CF card. Any idea where I can find that?

I appreciate the help.
