Bootcamp

This is what I did with EOS count. Worked perfectly on 7D gave count and serial number, 5DM3 gave shutter count but no serial number.

Ian.

Hello everyone! Heads up on some changes coming - eoscount.com (external link) will move from ad-supported model to pay-per-use model on Saturday, July 28 (around 2-4pm PST). There will be a fee per unique shutter count reading (around $1.5) processed by PayPal. As an additional service, there will be an opportunity to register and save the readings for future reference (registering will be required for Digic V cameras as they cannot be uniquely identified). Time sync and other information will remain free.

I hope this change will fund development of better tools and services in the future. I'm announcing it in this POTN thread only, since this thread has been very helpful in making EOSCount a better product.

That may be true. But no one likes to program things for free either. So I can appreciate where the author of the program is coming from.

A buck-fiddy to check the shutter count is a small price to pay. (Good thing I don't have some weird obsession to always check shutter count.) I would think most people would only ever use it 2x, really, if that many times at all. If buying used, they'll use it 1x to check shutter count. And use it 1 more time before they sell it. :)

To the author of eoscount, keep up the great work. Your program saved countless people the hassle of doing that Linux process. :D

Agreed. Working for free sucks. They should get paid.

I wonder how that came up with that price?

I don't see any problem with $1.50. More power to you, Sergey!

Dude, I paid 1.50 today for a 1DIV reading. Due to the crazy high shutter count I knocked him down 400€, to help cover me if I need the shutter replacing, that was 1.50 well spent! Nice tool.

Uh...

You should shoot photos for the sake of shooting them. (Or because you're being paid to do so.)

There's no minimum/maximum (over/under) number that you're suppose to aim for.

I paid the $1.49 and came up with 1914 clicks. I bought the camera from D.Vance. I probably put the 14 on:) Have not had a chance to get out. I did have a problem in that after I DL the 7Zip and unzipped to get the count, Internet Explorer would not work. I accidently clicked OK to install the Yahoo toolbar. Went back, uninstalled 7zip and BOTH Yahoo icons in Control Panel. My Internet works now. Just a word of caution.
