Thank you, Michael, for your vote of confidence. EOSCount should work for most modern EOS cameras starting with the 40D, but it does not work for any EOS model. This is simply because not all EOS models send the shutter count to the PC. Only recent ones do.

5D Mark 1 does not send the shutter count and so is not supported. I don't have access to a 1Ds Mark III, but one person had told me previously that it did not work. I assume that the 1Ds3 model is too old and doesn't send the shutter count to the PC as well.

From time to time you may see N/A reading for supported cameras, but that should go away if you refresh the page several times. I noticed that problem too late in the development cycle and could not reproduce it very well to fix (it goes away right when I try to repro).

Regarding safety of installing an ActiveX - this term got bad press some time ago when unsigned ActiveX plugins were allowed to install. Now IE doesn't even let the user install an unsigned plugin with the default settings (so I had to go out and pay for a certificate). Just remember, an ActiveX is only loaded when the website explicitly asks for it and the user confirms. When you're not on eoscount.com, the EOSCount control is not loaded by the browser. Also, a signed ActiveX control is safer than installing an unsigned standalone program. In any case, there is no harm in disabling it after you no longer need to check for shutter count.

Thank you again for your positive response. If you're on Facebook and find eoscount.com useful, may I gently remind of the Recommend button :).

Doesn't work. It says 18K and some change for my 40D. I know I've taken way more than that.

And for info my 7D was purchased from Canon Direct as a refurb and I've put 6600 shots on it. I'm surprised, previous refurbs I've purchased had far fewer shots and it looked like new when I got it.

I have no way of knowing about my 7D but it certainly does show the correct count on my 1D4.

The 5D2 is dead on but as someone noted earlier it doesn't pick up the serial number.

75,425 on my 7D purchased June 2010 (refurb). I was expecting far less, but I'm still waiting to have a problem with it.

Looks like it worked for me on my 50D. The count matches my current image number, and even though I bought it used, I'm almost certain it wasn't reset.

Thanks for this!
