This "free" version is stolen copyrighted material modified in an unauthorized way. The digital signature on the ActiveX control is no longer valid ("unverified publisher"), so be very careful. The binary on this Chinese web site was modified after code signing.

Man that sucks .. you pour your heart and soul into developing something to help people and someone comes along and rips you off.

There are free ones out there like EOS Info - http://astrojargon.net/EOSInfo.aspx (external link) It didn't grab the serial number, but it's just the shutter count I'm looking for.

Just downloaded to my laptop; works as advertised (for my 40D)

Hi Simon,
it is not right, but it is Canon's bug. The firmware in all Digic V cameras sends a 2-digit number instead of the real serial to the PC. I've sent a bug report with full repro case to Canon, but received no reply. EOSCount shows it, because a 2-digit number is still better than nothing in distinguishing different cameras of the same model.

am I the only computer dummy around?? I just spend a fruitless hour and a half trying to do this. I tried on my little laptop, since it is still running ie, and 32bit. No go. I set up the old computer, uninstalled chrome cause I couldn't work out the ie tab for chrome, downloaded from the recommended tabs on the page, nothing, except a page to tell me I am a winner. I have searched, installed active x from other sources as well, nothing. I plug in the camera, nothing. Man, I hate technology sometimes! I wish the owner had included some more steps on what exactly I am supposed to do. Think I will be less stressed if I just sent it to canon! Lol, apart from loosing too many dollars in postage and freight and time lost not having my camera. It is just that I take a ton of photos for my work, and would like to know what my actuations are.

Tina, I'll just say that I feel your pain. I spent at least an hour, but I'll so bull headed that I would have spent all night once I got started. However, I ended up being successful using IE 32 bit from the start up menu on a windows 7 machine. Did you PP the owner the 1.50?

Tina

Don't feel bad I could not get it to work. I tried different computers & different browsers and all combinations of the two.

Magic Lantern is what I use. I don't know how accurate it is but it's close enough and it's free (although they take donations & you should if you can. Both sergeyv & ML should get paid for there work they have earned it). Plus with Magic Lantern you get a lot of cool software for your camera.

Just a thought. Good luck. Hope this helps

hooray, I am not the only one!!!
Cory, no, as that option never came up. Lol, I just know that technology pushes my buttons, and I am best to leave well alone when my stress levels rise. Otherwise I blow a fuse!!
Thanks IQ Zero. I think I have decided not to know for now, and will just run the camera until it has a fit. After all, it could very well run well over the suggested life, and sending it in early to change it could be sort of pointless, especially if I get another 200k or so. (However, if I am over now, I should!) I will be getting a 7d as a backup, as I do need to have two from time to time, and my 40d is a little too old to be my backup now. I need one that has fast shutter speeds. Trouble is, Murphy is my best mate, and the camera will go bung at the worst time for sure!!!

Try this: http://www.twam.info …s-7d-shuttercount-on-os-x (external link)
Or, if your camera is supported by Magic Lantern, try that.

It is supposed to work on the 500D. Maybe you are not doing it right?

Does not work for 500D

Dear Users,
there was an unfortunate problem with http://eoscount.com (external link) hosting provider that rendered the site unoperational from about 11pm EST Oct 29 to 1pm EST Oct 30. I could not quickly resolve the problem because I was away without Internet access. However, the site is working properly now. It should work for a 500D (there have been many tested).
