Composition help

Hi all,

So below are 2 version of the same pic I shot in Venice recently. Originally I went with one that isn't cropped, but the eyes are smack-dab in the middle and it doesn't seem right. I tried some other crops but I'm not sure either works better. What do you think? Any other ideas?

In the interest of keeping bandwidth to a minimum I'm going to post fairly small pictures; hopefully it's enough to give you an accurate idea of the larger ones. Note that the horizontal version makes me crop about two thirds of the picture...

I like the 2nd picture in the first post.

I don't like the blurry foreground elements (shoulder and indescernable thing above the face) and suggest cropping to minimize those bits.

I agree with David. I like the concept, but there's too much blurred "frame" and not enough clear subject (reflection in the mirror). The fourth sample comes closest to having a strong subject, and would probably be stronger if the right 1/4 of the image is cropped off.

2 and 4 do it for me. I like the ambiguity going on in especially these crops.

Sorry, but you're going to have to get along without the 2nd set of attachments unless you can put them online & link to them here.

In the "Share" areas IMAGE POSTING RULES only allow 2 attachments by the OP per thread, OR 8 embedded (linked) images, OR a combination of both totaling 8 per thread. (Maximum 1024 pixels on any side.) You can always just post a link to more, though, or better yet, post a link to a gallery so we don't have to click on each image link.
Some exceptions are group threads, like "Show Me...", "Post your best...", equipment reviews, Tutorials, etc.
You may add a few additional photos if requested, but only in a reply to other member's post and request.

edit: and just for clarification if anyone reads this now, images 1 and 2 that responses above refer to are gone; what you see in the OP are 3 and 4.

Just my two cents but seing as the subjects right eye seems to be the clearest to me, I would play around with a crop that uses that eye at an intersecting point using the rule of thirds. I hate to lose any of that color though. Its a great shot regardless in my opinion.
