So I want a 200-400, do I give Canon 11k$, which will equate to at least 10k€....or buy a new Nikon 200-400 and used D3s for less money? Won't have to think about it too long I can tell you.

Thats my feeling....

As a former Pentax user and owner of their 40mm 2.8, it's a bit of a weird lens on a DSLR. On a M4/3, NEX, etc. type of body it makes perfect sense to me because of the slim form factor.

First 24mm f2.8 and 28mm f2.8 and now a 40mm f2.8..

im guessing 56mm f2.8 and a 62mm f2.8 will be next.

What's the point of a pancake lens on a DSLR body?

Pancake lenses are ideal for Leica-style rangefinder (or digial EVIL) cameras without big, bulky mirror and pentaprism setups, which make the camera large regardless of what sort of lens you fit on it.

if its sub-$200 i might jump on it, Might..

I wish it was wider though, Like a 30-35mm f/2.8 instead of 40mm

I will also be getting one. For full frame 40 is actually pretty nice but I do wish it was a bit wider but its pretty much exactly what I have been waiting for. I tried a Voightlander 40mm 2.0 and it was a blast but I hated manual focus.

I would love to love that pancake but it would not add too much over my current kit i suppose... Between the 28 1.8 and 50 1.8, neither of which are huge, the 2.8 aperture isn't really big enough to add anything useful.
If it were f/2, I'd be all over it though.

Could the pancake lens possibly mean an upcoming EF-compatible mirrorless camera??

An EF compatable mirrorless, at least using the straight EF mount with no modifications, would result in a very big bulky mirrorless camera, like the K-01 that Pentax has which is the same size as a K-5...

The reason is that if it uses the EF mount it would have to use the same flange to sensor distance, which means it would still have to space the lens mount out just as far as if the camera had a mirror box...

Personally I hope it fortells a new mini-Rebel (external link) form factor.

Yea...this would be an impulse buy for my to give to my wife to use on her T1i if the IQ is good. It's so small, and if the price is good it'll be one of those "I don't need this but it'd be a fun toy" type of purchases. :)

I think even a 20 would be fun too and I would bet we will see more if the first is successful.

I was really interested in the Voigtlanders 20 and 40 but they are manual focus somewhat expensive so I passed.
