UPS just delivered my new Sigma 150-500. It is good weather for ducks here but not for taking pictures of ducks. I'll try to follow through when the weather allows.

I researched this lens carefully on a number of different sites. Amazing thing, I trust POTN more than any of them. Thanks!

I will be interested in your follow up on the lens. I am thinking about getting one or the Canon 400 mm. Hope the weather clears up for you soon.

Congratulations!

One piece of advice, if you haven't used a lens that long before - be patient. It takes a whole different technique to use a 500 mm lens than it does a wide or normal lens. Don't get frustrated if your initial photos are not as sharp as some of the examples in the lens sample thread.

Still snowing this morning. My wife told me about a couple of bald eagles that hang out near her office. If the wind dies down I'll see if I can find them.

I just ordered a monopod and will be shooting a company soccer game in Orlando in March. I hope to get familiar enough with the lens by then to get some good shots.
Thanks for the feedback.

Very good to know :) I am new to this lens. I shot mostly hockey with a 70-200L and a 300L. This lens is significantly larger than the 70-200.

BTW - My iTunes library is very Pink.

Will do - I have been admiring some of your work. N. Idaho isn't that far away. Beautiful area. I am in northern Wyoming.

+1. There is a learning curve with this lens.

Okay - brief break in the snow/rain/wind and I found these at the park. I can see that I have some learning to do...

Hey Dan! Looks like you and the new lens are gelling well. :D Congrats! I am eager to see the tons of wildlife/birdlife images the lens is going to bring you. Come and post them in the Birds forum. :)

I've been out today with mine and every time I use it I'm more impressed with it. I put it on my 7D today instead of the 5D2 it normally goes on and when pixel peeping earlier, I was very pleased. Congrats on your purchase.

I really struggled over the decision to get the 150-500 over the 100-400L. How do you think they compare?

This is so true. Patience, look at your setting, figure out what you need to change to get the shots you miss, and it will become second nature before you know it.

I remember the first year I shot my son's football games. Good grief, my keeper rate was like 20% After three seasons my keeper rate is now closer to 70%. The more you know the subject matter and the better you can anticipate it, the better your results will be.
