Thanks for the link Dan.

I know it skirts the topic of politics but do you guys have to run a gauntlet of volunteers handing out how to vote forms from each political party? State election here today an Tracey and I walked around to the kids old school to vote. I hate it, there are usually at least 5 people from each party and in our area we have 4 candidates.

Hmm... never had anything like that here. I usually have to go to my old elementary school to vote. Walk into the gym, find the old lady taking care of my part of the alphabet, they usually recognize me, cross off my name, hand me a ballot, walk behind cardboard screen, vote, fold, put in box, go home. It takes longer to find a parking spot...

We get swarmed with them here and they literally harass you all the way from the parking lot to the front door. 500' would be a treat. You could park and vote without dealing with them at all.

I imagine that would be really, really annoying. We may have stuff like that in the bigger cities, but not out here.

Yeah. I just blow by them, except to say "hi" to people on our street.

Yea, we have the same. They have to stand something like 500 feet away from the polls, but they are there. Just part of the process. I usually just say no thanx, I've already done my homework and pass on by. They are not very aggressive and let you pass without indecent.

That.

Just looked at the radar. Looks like we're gonna get rain but probably not much else.

Looks like we've got a partly cloudy Saturday, better than the rain we've had lots of. Lawn mowed so it can dried out.

Moorning...

I thought 4G was on hold due to potential conflict with GPS, no?

Jon wrote in post #14139956 (external link)
No - that's LightSquared, who bought a block of satellite comms spectrum leases and wanted to build a land-based system in that frequency zone, which would have obliterated any high-precision GPS work. The regular wireless telcos are using spectrum that's allocated for ground-based mobile communications, and doesn't interfere with GPS or other satellite bands. However, I've seen at least some reports that AT&T's latest (nominally 3G, though they're calling it 4G based on performance) devices are faster than the Verizon LTE 4G devices.

And the FCC recently told LightSquared to pound sand after DOD came out in opposition to their proposal.

I haven't been to an actual polling place in several years. In California we have the option of becoming a permanent mail ballot voter. It neatly eliminates all the hassles of going to the polls, including over-zealous campaign workers...
