After riding the summer here, I felt like Superman riding in NY last fall. I was amazed at the difference. Lots to be said about training at elevation. Riding in Orlando over the winter was even easier.

That is intense! 10k elevation is more than the GFNY. I like how they include the garmin files. When i get home im going to DL it and see what the grades look like on those climbs. :)

:eek::eek: That would cause me to get off the motorcycle for a few weeks!

Na, sh!t happens. It scares the carp out of you but you do become way more aware of your riding style. I cant believe how many I see riding down the highway with only one hand on the bars. I just hope they have their organ donor cards signed.

Reminds me of those TDF riders who sleep in tanks which mimic air pressure at high elevation.

Speaking of having the s#1t scared out of you, the first time out on a motorcycle in CA, I was heading from San Diego to LA to visit some friends. Traveling up I-5 near Camp Pendleton when it started to rain....first rain in months. I didn't have enough hands! Then I hit a patch of grooved pavement....nothing like what we have on the east coast....with straight cut grooves, the west coast version is done with a vibrating rake in the still uncured concrete. Throws you around more than an open deck bridge!

Hmm I wonder if I would notice the different going from 1100-1200+ down to like sea level.

Crap though I really need to get back on the bike... It's been three weeks. :(

There was about a 1500' change in base elevation from here to NY....the difference was quite noticeable. The topography is vastly different too. Hills in NY were gentle rolling climbs....not the testicle popping verticals like here.

Ah, yeah that's pretty substantial. :p

Here it's pretty flat, but when there are climbs they go on... seemingly forever... :/ Slow and steady... but they still suck.

I've fallen off of motorcycles just about every way it is possible to do so. I've laid them down, gone over the high side, gone over the bars, and even fallen off the back of one while doing a wheelie. None of that scared me enough to keep me off of them until........

........seeing the aftermath of a guy who hit a sign post causing his head to explode like a melon did the trick for me, at least for street bikes. That was the start of a process that eventually led to me parking them for good. I've always thought I might like to ride again someday, but I think I can finally say I'm now too old. I guess it's pretty much out of my system now, so it's bicycles for me from here on.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

Most of the climbs in NY might entail dropping a gear. Climbs here can involve dropping 15.

I really wish I could have brought my bike out to Phoenix when I was there in December. Conditions were great.

Same here but it was on dirt. Dirt riding is the best training ground for the street. You learn all kinds of things riding in the dirt.

Bicycles are more in line with my lifestyle than a motorcycle is. I'm content with pedal power.
