We have a very active cycling community out here. I have no idea who they are, or where they're going, but almost every morning, there are large groups of them pedaling down Highway 111 just a couple blocks from our house. There are a couple long climbs out of the valley. Tramway Road and Palms to Pines Highway always have lots of bikers on them, but considering how the four-wheelers drive on those roads, I think it's a little crazy.

Basically, we're just a lot of flat here. Wind is probably the biggest challenge, especially when heading west. Prevailing winds come from that direction, and sustained headwinds of 20mph are not uncommon.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

I think I would have enjoyed your ride at the golf course.

Wind sucks, it's like climbing but without the reward of being able to stop at the top and look down and think to yourself "wow I just rode up that". Instead, you stop dead tired and look back and just see a flat road. It's pretty depressing.

Bicycles are more in line with my lifestyle than a motorcycle is. I'm content with pedal power.

Me too!

Most of the climbs in NY might entail dropping a gear. Climbs here can involve dropping 15.

I really wish I could have brought my bike out to Phoenix when I was there in December. Conditions were great.

Ah  We're somewhere in the middle.

Things are starting to get a bit warm here, so I need to start riding earlier or later than I have been. I've been lacking motivation though, and then I saw some cyclist got hit by a car and killed on a road that I used to ride 2-3 times a week... that didn't help with the motivation. :|

Somebody getting splattered along a usual route would definitely be a hit to the motivation.

She didn't have a riding partner so I guess she had to call someone to share the feeling...

Especially since I rode that route for two reasons. One it had good climbing, two it had less traffic than most of the roads around here... Oh well.. :/
