LOL, my wife has told me to never get flowers for any sort of gift. Flowers would be a slap in the face to her. Do something romantic. I usually strip down to my tidy whities and do a special dance for her with some soothing Marilyn Manson tune serenading her in the background. It's ok to get a little naughty, maybe rub barbecue sauce all over your chest and write her name in it. Make it special, make it about her.

Yeah. No kidding...

You guys are on a roll this morning.

Heather and I will be married 12 years next month. I don't think we'll do much because our anniversary is a week after her brother's stateside wedding (he got married in China in January) and Heather is coordinating the whole thing. We may go out to dinner or something...

If you do it right, that will be more than enough, I'm sure. Take her to George's at the Cove in La Jolla, or something equivalent. The food AND the view are great.

Good suggestion, but possibly out of our budget. We're more the Outback Steakhouse type...

Experience must count for something.

The gifts I've given Lois over the years are interesting. It's almost an inverse quality; the things I found most interesting were the things she obviously liked least. I bought her a very fancy hair dryer early in our marriage, and she darned near threw it at me. Jewelry was always a big hit, but not if I picked it out by myself. The only way to do that was to take her shopping, and let her pick it out herself. I remember another time (although it was Christmas, not our anniversary) I bought her a VERY expensive pair of diamond earrings. These things we really magnificent. She thought they were ostentatious, and made me take them back. She bought an ostentatious cocktail ring with the money. I just pick the wrong form of ostentation.

Wife does the same thing..."don't get this, don't do that, that is just god awful". Flowers are nice as a side thing....not as a gift!

It's ok, she doesn't vacuum. Maybe 3 times in 14 years of marital bliss. She doesn't garden either.

Greetings All...

Ah yes, keeping "Momma Happy" I'll shop for gifts for Christmas but Birthdays are usually a case of "Have fun shopping and I'll see you back here before we go out for a nice dinner." Anniversaries are very similar.

We do have one fun ritual though. Each year, on or around our anniversary, we go to the Swarovski store and pick out a small crystal figure that ties to some significant event from the previous year. We bought a small plane in 2004 when I got my pilot''s license. Last year we bought a small Seal because we'd been to Sea World, etc... It's a fun exercise and it's fun to collect little things that have meaning!
