You have pshop right?

Use Adobe Bridge. It's even nicer than LR3/4 for browsing images in folders and whatnot.

But.. if you want to use LR you should be able to go into the import function and browse that way, just without actually importing anything. I'll have to look to see if there is another way..

Well somehow I got a thing for it to 'find' the folder, not sure what it did really, but I can at least look at the pictures.

Well that works.

Look into Adobe Bridge though, it installs with pshop. It's great for browsing pictures, videos etc.

So I have the love-hate relationship with Lightroom.

I love the layout for viewing pictures, and that I can look at RAW stuff.

But, I absolutely HATE how difficult this thing is to use with different file folders. I like that it organizes stuff by date, but I cannot possibly remember the date of every thing I photographed. I want to be able to rename the folder, and then have Lightroom actually be able to "find" the folder.

Is there a way that I can use LR to view the contents of a folder without having to import anything?

I tag everything before i import. Makes it every easy to find everything even if i dont remember the date.

Well June, July and August I am flat out busy... I am sure I could find somewhere for sept.

I just want to be able to name a folder by the event. Like Prom Night, Trains, etc. So when I go into my Pictures folder I can see what I have categorized by subject, not just all by date.

You can do that right at the point of import. For example if you have a master folder for 2012. Just click on it (if it isnt doing it auto already). Then click on "put into subfolder". At that point you can name it what you want. Then it can place it by date within the titled folder as well. That is the exact way i do it.

I had the same experience at first too. You can either do what Nick suggested and use Bridge, or learn to use keywords when you import. I make extensive use of keywords. Much better than searching for a single folder you've named. You can use it across multiple folders.

Hitting the face of the cliff on the way down can ruin your whole day. Airplanes are much safer than cliffs.

Mayra has to check her mail. Currently taking the final class of 4 for her road to a Suba diving license

She probably already knows this, but be careful about scuba diving and skydiving too close together.
