I have a Craftsman 7 1/2" circular saw that has lasted 30 years....still works great. Same thing with the 20 year old belt sander and 10" table saw....most of the other power tools are Dewalt or Bosch.

I do have to disclaimer my Craftsman stuff. Much of it is 30 years old. The newer stuff seams better with many more options on ratcheting box wrenches. I did prefer the older ratchets over the new style. Let me say that Northern tool quality is real bad. I broke 3 -3/8 x 3 inch extensions one day. They replaced them all but I'll never put more then 50 ft lbs. of torque on one ever again.

Snap On has great ergonomics and fit, at least the old ones, haven't gotten a new Snap On tool since the early 90's. Had $17k in Snap On receipts back then. Lots of pneumatic tools, calipers, cam bearing pullers, body tools. My nice guy auto repair service just crashed and burned really quickly.

I'm pretty sure we even get the Craftsman brand over here in Ozz now in our Masters Hardware stores, which is the Woolworths hardware chain that is in partnership with the U.S. Lowes chain.

Well that was a crazy ride...

I went out planning on doing about a 20 mile loop, taking it easy. However, once I got out sort of felt like climbing, but decided to put that off until tomorrow. But then I couldn't get over for the turn I needed to head on the pre-planned route, so I said screw it I'm gonna go find some of these hills I had heard about south of where I was.

Well sort of rode around just back into the area against the mountain to find some hills, and saw some guys circling around at this one point, so I asked him where there were some hills around here, he pointed at one of the streets right where we were and said he was about to ride it again if I wanted to come. On the way down I found out he was doing this hill for the 6th time and was planning on getting 8-10 repeats in. We did a few more, he ended up hitting about 8 repeats, I got 3 in, and then he mentioned another area where he was going to ride some more hills so I followed along. One of those hills ended up being a brutal cat 4 and then another nasty hill full of turnbacks after that.

So my 20 miles easy ride turned into a 40 miles of steep hill repeats... He kicked my ass the entire time, but we exchanged numbers so I may have another riding buddy now which is nice.

I ended up running into the guy about mile 8.6 and left him about mile 27 to head back home. I'm beat.

Welds broke. I hope I can get it welded back on. I'm going to send pictures to a friend that owns an independent motorcycle shop and see what he might be able to do.

Just heard on the news there was a AH-1 helicopter crash in Coolidge, AZ today. Apparently it occurred during a shoot for the TV show Top Gear...

The pilots survived...

People either love or hate Craftsman tools. Mine have been through the wringer repeatedly....some have broken, but Sears has replaced them with like or better on every occasion, with no questions asked. I can't complain.

My problem with Craftsman tools is that they are not readily available here. Sears does carry tools, but they mainly carry carpentry tools in store. I've been to Sears in the US, and they have a ton more tools, but I don't want to deal with crossing the border for warranty. And I really can't be bothered to go looking for them when Canadian Tire always has them in store.

Oh dear....

At least the pilots made it out ok. :(

That's the second AH-1 incident in a few weeks... There was a mid air collision between a Huey and a super-Cobra near the AZ/CA border during a training exercise.

The crash was actually a couple days ago but yes, the cockpit tub structure kept the pilots alive. Pretty hairy scene I guess. Apparently, no NTSB backlash on the Fly-in breakfast this morning. Word is it was business as usual for pilots and photographer's.

I have a different philosophy. If I get money back, it's an indicator I did poor planing at the beginning of the year. I would much rather keep my own hard earn pay than to stick it into a zero percent interest savings account.

Same here. I got the Fed almost right on - I owed them about $90. The State wasn't quite that close, but well within my acceptable margins.

We've been using the same tax person for several years and I sat down with her once and she showed me how to lay everything out. I set up an excel spreadsheet with all the categories we need to save for, mortgage, car payments, vacation, taxes, and such. We then carve out the needed $$ up front and the rest becomes general living funds. It takes about 5 minutes a paycheck to update the spreadsheet and do the funds transfer. So far it's worked well.

Years ago I tried using Quicken, but it just frustrated me. I switched to a spreadsheet more than 10 years ago and and it has worked 100 times better for me.

Good to hear the pilots survived. Cause for the crash?

I believe the initial stated cause was hydraulic failure...

Two from today:

Unfortunately, no...

Both were (sort of) ground to air. I spent some time today on the catwalk of the air traffic control tower down at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson.

They were holding the annual "Heritage Flight Conference" where they bring together many different types and ages of planes for formation practice before the airshow season really gets going.

Ah, that makes sense. That second shot is just from a higher angle.
