A road course is still a loop track.

I'll watch them, but I really don't enjoy them much.

Yeah... but they have right turns...

It's more about navigating the course than it is about having a good car and knowing how to draft. :p

You're right Nick!

I mean, F1 would never stoop to aero tricks like adjustable rear wings or having only certain spots on the track where you could.... Oh, wait...

Ok, Indy Car! Indy Car would never give their cars a button where they could go faster but for only X amount of... Oh, Wait...

;)

Where's Omar? None of you guys want to congratulate me on successfully adjusting my derailleur. I was really impressed with myself, and all you guys want to talk about is NASCAR. Well phoo on you:p:p

Congrats on a job well done.

You are right. Most racing in general has gotten just way too gimmicky...

F1 needs to go back to the days of little downforce and massive engines, Nascar needs to go back to Stock Cars since after all it is calls STOCK CAR racing, and Indy cars well, they're hopeless.

And that's the part of the sport that I don't like. Too many 'tricks' that take away the driving skill aspect.

NASCAR has gone back to more of a stock car.

F1 needs to go back to the days of little downforce and massive engines and only one or two competitive teams, Nascar needs to go back to Stock Cars where guys build them in backwoods barns since after all it is calls STOCK CAR racing, and Indy cars well, they're hopeless since they became go-carts on steroids.

Fixed it... ;)

There isn't a single bolt on that car that is stock...

They are anything but a stock car...

Beautiful shots, Jay. I especially like the two F-86's. You just don't see that every day.

I had a bit of constructive fun yesterday. My wife's brother finally brought back my old Specialized Stumpjumper. It's a really old model, probably 20 years or more, and it's really HEAVY. (chrome-moly frame) Nonetheless, it's really a nice bike, and was expensive in its day. It has decent components, and would make an ideal cruiser for around the neighborhood.

Typical of the things he 'borrows,' it was in pretty poor shape coming back. Two flat tires, front brakes disconnected, wouldn't shift onto the little sprocket in front, etc., etc. Also, it was filthy/muddy.

I worked on it for a couple hours, replacing both inner tubes, adjusting the derailleurs, cables, and brakes. I gave it a really good scrubbing, oiled the chain, and a few other small things that would have annoyed me. It now looks and runs like new. It makes me glad I kept my bike stand. It sure makes that kind of work a lot easier.

I noticed my BIL looking at it last night, and I believe he's thinking I did all that for him. At some point today, I'm going to take it for a ride, and in so doing, hopefully remind him that it's MY bike.

Excellent work Chief! Something therapeutic about giving a bike a nice tune up and cleanup. But i have to ask: Where are the shots? :D

I'd go to Sonoma. Beautiful location, (fairly) interesting track and the cars can be surprisingly nimble on a road course.

Infineon is a fun course. I've been on it a bunch of track days with my motorcyle. Trouble is that I go through $400 worth of tires every time I go. I need a sponsor!

I guess I missed that part 'cuz of the grousing about how someone left your bike a mess. ;)

That's a nice one. The rain gauge on my 7 year old Oregon Scientific unit just died and I can't get a replacement anymore, darn it. I think I'm going to get a Davis Instruments unit with a data logger this time.

Except I got it for $25.00 not $99.00...

Plus I have a little Oregon Scientific indoor/outdoor thermometer I use to keep track of highs and lows...

Well, thank you everyone. It was so nice of you to mention it.

I gave up watching F1 years ago. Generally the races are over after qualifying. The order rarely changes after the first lap, and getting up at 4:00 needs more reward than that. Bernie Ecclestone really messed it up. It would be nice to get someone running that organization who is really a racer, and won't change rules on the fly to benefit his friends.

NASCAR is edging closer to becoming the joke that F1 and Indy car have already become, but it's still capable of being entertaining in spite of it. People who grouse about oval racing being boring have obviously never tried it. Road racing 3,500 lb. cars is truly a wonderful thing to behold, and I wish they would do more of it. That's where you find out who the real drivers are.

I think EVERYONE should have to race in the rain. Drifting might even make some sense then.

Shortening drag strips to 1,000' for dragsters and funny cars has screwed that up. Build longer tracks to accommodate the extra speed.

I miss USAC champ cars (front engine, of course). Simon and Garfunkel can sing about Joe DiMaggio, but I'm more inclined to wonder, "Where have you gone, Billy Vukovich?", and others of his ilk. They were iron men, and not prissy little go-kart graduates.

BTW, this brings to mind one of the best races I ever saw live. It was a Bilstein Cup Race at Laguna Seca. It was a bunch of no-name drivers in Volkswagen Rabbits. The cars were essentially stock, but tuned to a fare-thee-well, and those guys were getting around that track at speeds faster than some of the lesser-class open wheel cars. They actually raced, and there was (gasp) passing!! The cars were quite equal, and the drivers seemed to be pretty equal, too. Most of all, I was impressed with how good they got around that track in cars that were obviously not designed for such foolishness. That's real racing.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

It's because they were in VW's. VW's make everything better. :p

You want entertaining races? Try going to an Enduro Race at a local track. Especially when they have train races between heats.
