I've recently had this last last week, I had a new sensor fitted and it wasnt calibrated perfectly with the motherboard (supposed to be done on installation).I sent it back in and its fine now, it only took a day to do.Have you had a new sensor or servicing done?

shutter failure?

the good news is no, it doesn't look like shutter failure...

I'm hoping you're under warranty?

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Thanks, this is the same problem I think. The only service done recently was an AF calibration . I look back carefully at the picture I take this week end and it's there. Gosh!

Well, one month later I receive a call from the store where I dump the body: "Canon can't reproduce the problem", My gosh! How they check our camera? it's pretty simple, put a card in the body and take a picture, you gonna see the line! This make me question a lot about the quality of the Canon service at least at the shop at Mississauga/ontario. It's question also a lot my loyalty in Canon. I have this body from november 2011 and maybe shot one week max with.... somebody want a 1D4 with full set of L lens.

Could it be a lighting frequency issue?

No, I have this on every images. If you look at Iform response up in the thread, it is a filter or sensor alignment.

Maverique: Yes Free! but shipping are very expensive.

an other sample, but no flash and outside with natural light, so no frequency issue. In this portrait orientation the band are on the top.

Well did you send them the same card you were using? Maybe they used a different card and were indeed not able to reproduce it.

Why would you want to automatically dump all your gear over something you don't even understand the cause of? Even if the shop made a mistake, it's the fault of one tech, not the entire service dept or Canon products as a whole.

I would send it directly to Canon, since it's under warranty, WITH the card you are using, a sample photo AND a PRINT of the sample photo with the band highlighted with red arrows.

A note explaining what you 've been through with this should also help.

The problem is that they plug the camera to the computer program analysis only, they dont use the camera. I have to send them picture, they dont take it. When I send them my first 1D4 because it as been fall from the tripod in a stream. In the report I send with the body I said it as been fall in the stream but no evidence of water inside. They send it back telling it was out of repair because of the water dammage. To be sure, I send it in an small independant repair shop. They show me there are no trace of water , corrosion inside the camera. More, He show me that Canon doesn't even open the camera, the seal beign intact. As far as can tell, my loyalty to Canon start to fail with the 1D3. I go trough 2 body to find one that was acceptable. This kind of process is time consuming. When I watch at the personnal picture I take from the last three years, most are test. I dont want to test material, I want to photography. Unfortunatly, I buy this camera used with no more garantee.

I had something similar a few months ago but it was *much* fainter than what you have on yours. I sent in the camera with a print and an explanation of how to reproduce the problem. Canon performed a repair and all they said on the invoice was "Readjusted CMOS sensor assembly".

The first picture on top of the thread, are part of a serie I took when My camera was just come back from calibration for a severe back focus problem (The focus beign at the infinity and never or close to never on the subject). When the camera come back I do l alot of test about the AF. It was now right on subject close but off with subject far away with telephoto, send it back again. They call me to tell they don't see the problem " they can't reproduce the problem". Strangely when the camera come back it was now OK, but with that line on the side.
