what is this plate?

as i was watching the video on the cinch, i saw this plate and looks very interesting as you can hook up the cinch to it and also mount on the tripod.

i'm hoping to find whatever this plate is at a local shop to try it on my dolica ballhead.

It's an Arca Swiss compatible plate. They use a Really Right Stuff BH-55 ball head, so I assume it's a RRS plate. You might be able to swap the clamp on your head over to an Arca type. A lot of us use and prefer the Arca system over all the others. You can look at RRS, Kirk, Acratech, etc.

It certainly looks like an RRS plate of some kind. I cannot read the number stamped into the plate as the res breaks down into artifacts, but you should be able to find what you want on RRS's site.

Actually, it looks more like a Kirk plate. RRS plates tend to have that "zero/center" icon on the photographer/LCD side of the plate as well as a slightly slimmer profile.

i thought i was a kirk.. but didn't see it on their site. but then again, i need to work with my bat grip.

That is my D7000 with this RRS plate...

Both Duncan and I only run RRS plates, or ones we built/designed ourselves...

doh! i'm hoping to find one that would work on my 5D2+grip.

I use an RRS plate with the number BGE-2 stamped into the metal. Its the plate I used on my gripped 30D and it fits perfectly. RRS kit is beautifully made.

It looks like in the case of Kirk & RRS, both the camera plate and L plate for the 5D2 have the mount point where you could attach the Cinch, but neither of the plates for the 5D2 + bg have it.

Maybe it would strain the BG/Camera connection or something.

ETA: I have both Kirk & RRS L plates. For the life of me, I'm not sure why RRS is so much more popular. Better marketing I suppose.

^^ yea i noticed that too on both kirk and RRS site. i guess i could see how it might strain it. but that's why i have a hand strap, so in case if it the battery grip comes undone from insde the camera or from the screw that holds the bat grip to the cam.. at least my gear won't drop to the floor.

Im a little confused here.. Whats wrong with just getting a tried and true RRS one? I have both the B5D2-L and BGE6-L RRS plates for my 5D2 and they work wonderfully as has all of my RRS gear. If the problem is attaching your hand strap, well none of the RRS plate block the built in hand strap mount on the Canon grips as Ive shown in my attached image.
