I don't see it as much of an upgrade to go from one Rebel model to another.

Image sensors. A T2i can take the exact same image a 7D can. Ergonomics, weather proofing, and FPS don't effect the image quality.

In a month or two.

Based on what information? I've heard that the 5D Mark III will be released any day for the past 6 months. I'm still waiting. Heck even the 1Dx has been released and shown to the public for several weeks now and its still not available for sale. Speculation that they MAY release an update to the 7D sometime before the end of the year.

I wouldn't hold my breath...

This was sort of my thinking for upgrading to the T3i over the XSi.

I think it would be better to wait for the next rebel announcement. Even if you don't buy the next rebel because of its price or features, the T3i will drop in price at that point. I upgraded to T3i from the xsi but then returned and got a 60D. The price difference between a t3i kit and a used or CLP 60D body is not significant.

What is it about the 60D that you like over the T3i?

And to all you Rebel slaggers out there .. Rebels are very capable cameras, and have their place in Canon's EOS line-up.

No one is knocking Rebels, some of my best images are from my XT. Everyone is just saying it won't be a worth while upgrade from a XSi to a T3i or T2i if he/she doesn't need video.

I personally like the weight and how it feels holding it, the battery life is really good(2 to 3 times) and also the top lcd. The other thing that I use when shooting not so important photos is mRaw format which isn't there in t3i. This is not so important for many people but I really hate the plasticky loud shutter sound from the rebels. The thing that I thought would use but I am not is the 1/3rd stop iso(it is overrated). I don't shoot much action/sports but if you do the fps is better.

I just upgraded to the 60D from a T1i, and I'm really glad I did. It's a much nicer camera. I just bought a new kit with the 60D and the 15-85IS lens for $1479 here in Canada. It's a fantastic deal - the lens is worth close to $1000 on its own, and is one of the highest-rated crop sensor lenses around. If you can find that kit on sale, get it!

As for the 60D itself, here are some big features the rebels lack:

- Articulated screen. If you do video work, this is a major feature.

- Much better ergonomics. The camera fits the hand better, the top LCD allows you to see shot parameters without lighting up the back LCD (or while staring down at the camera on a low tripod). Some features that are only available on the Rebels through a series of menu selections have dedicated buttons on the 60D. The menus are much easier to navigate because there are two wheels on the camera - the top wheel moves left/right in the menu system, while the back wheel scrolls up/down. Once you get the hang of it, menu navigation is much better.

- The cross-type Auto-focus points are theoretically better than the ones on the Rebels.

- The 60D has a built-in wireless speedlight transmitter (IR). If you have a canon speedlight, this will allow you to do off-camera flash without having to buy a 580EXII flash unit along with your slave flash.

- 5.3 fps burst mode. Much faster than the rebels.

- The 60D has better weather sealing than the Rebels (but not as good as the 7D).

- The viewfinder is larger and brighter than the Rebel viewfinders (Pentaprism vs Pentamirror)

I'm sure I could think of a few more features, but for me, the 60D is a substantial upgrade over any of the Rebel cameras. The kit with the 15-85 IS lens is a spectacular bargain right now.

I have a 286 computer, but I am still waiting until they make a computer so good, I'll never need to upgade.

Seriously, don't wait for something that currently does not exist. If you want to upgrade, decide on what is actually currently available.

No model of anything stays current very long.

Life is too short for fence sitting...

Just saying.

Just for the sake of accuracy: The T3i does have an articulated screen as well as built-in wireless E-TTL flash control. I don't own one, so correct me if I'm wrong...

Now, if it were me, to fit what I shoot...I'd buy a used or refurb 7D.

You are correct, the T3i has an articulated screen and wireless flash control, but it's just a Rebel, so it must be crap...

Everyone knows you need to spend a 'bizillion' dollars to be a 'real' photographer!

I wasn't aware that the T3i had the wireless speedlight transmitter or the articulated screen. I upgraded from a T1i. Thanks for the correction.

I missed out on both with my t2i as well. I don't shoot video ever and I don't use wireless flash control either as I use triggers and full manual so the lack of either is no issue for me.
