All,

i was wondering if anyone one here has experience using the new generation macbook airs for post processing? i was thinking of selling my 7d and some extras to get my wife and i a mobile solution for processing while out in the field as well as using at consultations with clients.

it would not be our main processing computer as we have a 27" imac for that, just looking for a mobile solution and didnt know if the air could handle lightroom processing or not.

thanks

I have the Macbook Air with i5 processor and love it! The performance benchmark is better than my Macbook Pro which is my main editing machine (although a 4 year old machine). Now I havent done an extensive full workflow edit on the Air, but what I have done with it, it handled it well. Only problem I would see is storage especially when you start dealing with large files, but if you have an external solution, or dump the photos after editing this shouldnt be a problem.

I have a Late 2010 Air with the 2.13 Core 2 Duo with 4 Gig of RAM and the 256 Gig SSD.. I am pleased with the performance. The extra RAM and SSD makes a huge difference and it was actually quicker than a Late 2010 13" MacBook Pro that I had at work.

It runs Photoshop CS4 and Aperture quickly. I don't particularly like editing on that small screen but then my main editing machine is a 27" iMac with an i5. The Air does well for editing on site or on a trip but I wouldn't want to do have it as my main machine.

Storage shouldn't be any problem now with the new Thunderbolt (external link) drives.
Still very few manufacturers but when Intel also launches this for PC it will improve

I use an MBA 13 (2011) works fine with LR. Use a Spider3 for screen calibration.
I use my MacBook Air for traveling and love it

I have a current ten 13" MacBook Air with an i7 and all the trimmings (big SSD, 4 gigs of RAM) and it works reasonably well for Lightroom and DxO Optics pro. Not crazy fast, but it is quick, screen isn't ideal (but then, what laptop screen is?). It is pretty darn slow compared to the 18 month old Mac Pro, so I only use it when on the go or when I really need to. But it's a hell of a powerful machine for its size...
