Hey all,

I just finished my in depth hands on review of the Sony 55-210mm E-mount lens designed for the Nex Camera system. Tons of sample photos, video, 100% crops etc..

I was gonna say Pepper Mill but if it makes good images then, what the heck, right? :D

Jason,
Would you consider doing a review on an adapter with varying aperture for Canon L glass to the Nex5n? I sold my Nex5n in favor of the T3i and now I know I made a mistake. The low light performance is much better than Canon's and I am looking to pick another one up just for low light needs. I would like to use the Canon glass just so I won't have to carry a Sony lens. I know an adapter with adjustable aperture will work. Its a shame the IS and AF will not work but the difference is still worth it I think.

Mine-- 60D, 24-105 f4L IS, 70-200 f2.8 IS II
Son's --T3i, lens to come I hope

Dean, you have great glass, just buy a better low light Canon body so you can still enjoy 4-stop IS and AF.

PS I was gonna say that the Sony lens looks like a thermos (or an insulated coffee mug). I like it! ;)

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

Thanks for all the comments ;)

Dean, You can use your canon glass with an adjustable Iris like this set-up here: http://sonyalphalab.com …canon-ef-135mm-f2-l-lens/ (external link)

I own this adapter and it works great, although the Iris doesn't do that much really. You also loose a little of the frame when you adjust the aperture Iris. It does give a little more dof though.

I hope that helps!

Jay

This lens is a disappointment for me. Focusing in somewhat lowlight condition is not good unlike the 18-55 OSS (comparing both at 55mm).

Going to have a read of it now. I enjoyed the reviews about the wide angle / Fisheye converter lenses for the Sony 16mm lens. I hope to order the wide-angle converter lens soon for my 3 night stopover in Dubai on the way to visit my family in Australia. Keep up the cool and informative reviews. Much appreciated:)

Both of the lenses seem to struggle a little bit in low light at 50mm in my experience. Thanks for sharing your experience!!

Nope, the 18-55mm can focus... 55-200mm refused to focus .

Again, you must have a bad copy, as that did not happen to me.

I did not test it on the Nex-7 my friend. a lot of the E-Mount lenses are poor on the Nex-7 due to the incredible high resolution sensor. Super high quality optics is need for that sensor like the Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 for example. Klaus Hermann is also doing some awesome testing on this issue!! I can't find a link at the moment, but sonyalpharumors.com posts links all the time.

On the Nex-5n however, the lens performs excellent in my opinion. Again, for the money as it's only $350.00 for a lot of lens including OS.

Best,
Jay
