Is this normal or should I contact the seller? I can't imagine why anyone would unscrew a lens unless its to meddle with the inside..

Filter thread is also dirty.

I don't think it is normal at all. Should contact the seller ASAP.

Unless I got a really good deal on it, I'd return it. I'm a little nuts about that kind of thing though. I can imagine that some would recommend that you not worry about it if all else seems to be in order. Btw, I have the 135L and I love it.

This actually happened to me when I bought a 135mm from the marketplace. I noticed it a few weeks later. Bought a replacement from canon and shipping for less than $1.00. No problems at all.

I don't get why a screw would be missing though, I assume they don't just randomly fall out.

dennisgibson - Yep.

$700 for a 135L? I don't think you can ask for more.
It's just one missing screw. They sell them for $5~6 bucks in packs at most.
One missing screw doesn't mean much except the fact the screw was loose and it fell off. It might have been a defected screw from moisture.
