I'm enjoying learning about birds as I take their photos and then try to identify them. For example, I learned that the European Starling was introduced to America in the 1890s, and today's population of around 200 million in North America all are descendents of the original 100-160 (conflicting stories) birds.

C&C appreciated, as I'm still learning.

Excellent variety you have here. I also like the light in the Bluebird and the mix of sky and clouds in the Egret in-flight image.

Very nice collection Sandwedge.
I don't know that I've ever seen an Egret in quite that position or in quite that same light...but I like it!
My favorite is the Loggerhead Shrike. What a beautiful image of a very handsome bird.
Glad to hear you're having fun and please keep `em coming.

Love the Shrike, I do not see them enough. I have a few decent pics of the one I saw.

I like all the shots, but the flying birds are tough to get. The egret is a great shot.

Nice variety in that series Douglas. It is so helpful to learn about your birds as it is such a help as you progress. I know I certainly have a lot to learn!

You took on a great exposure challenge with the Great Egret and pulled it off. The Shrike is such a good looking bird and nicely done..
As the Eastern Bluebird is our State bird, it always makes me happy to see one. I like your exposure very much.
The Starling is very nicely composed.

Keep up the good work. I look forward to more.

Thanks for all the replies!

Yes CamFan, it is a unique position for an egret, and it was a unique experience for me. This particular egret was at one of his usual spots. It was near sunset, and I was approaching from a good position. I was still a good distance from him when he came out from behind some underbrush and alerted to me. I was standing very still with the sun directly to my back.

When he took flight, I thought it was just another typical encounter with him and that he was flying away. However, this time he flew directly toward me. He was flying into a headwind. He then spent a full minute flying back and forth, in front and above me, looking down at me. I suppose he was trying to figure out what I was. I took 50 shots of him, and this was my favorite mainly because of the clouds.

Here's another shot of him. It's cropped a little more than the first, but I really like how his eyes are looking down at me:
