I had £3500 of gear trashed by a car on a straight on an Airfield at an event not long back,he went of inexplicably at 90 degrees ,hit the gear ,then drove off .
OUCH! Really sorry to hear.
As I said it was my first. I was looking at trying to get shots from different angles with no experience. Many years ago I did land Rover Rally driving in the Army in Germany so I did try to stay away from what could be perceived as the danger/spin off points.
The thing is, I was not alone were I was, there were spectators standing next to me. When I was laying down I was in a ditch, not just next to the track.. So I felt I could duck into the ditch under a car should the worst happen. I was only ever a mximum of 3 metres off the bend.
I'm not for a minute trying to defend myself but attempting to explain my thinking and 'risk assessment'.
I've learned a heck of a lot from this thread.
