Darren,
These are not your best, compositions are pretty boring, spectators are chopped in 4 of the shots, and the cars could be anywhere.
The exposures and sharpness are good ,so a bit disappointed .

Regards,
Pons

I agree they're not brilliant. I walked along the stage for the College Moor ones to get out of the trees as it was sunny but I didn't realise the cars would fully cut the grass on the inside of the corner so they didn't really do anything interesting. The area behind was a fairly featureless field hence me framing most of it out of the shots.
I really didn't want to end up where I did for the Wass ones because I knew a load of spectators would show up once the historics had been through as the same thing happened to me last year when it was run the other way but looking at the map I couldn't work out anywhere that looked decent and wouldn't be backlit so I ended up back there again.

I think when the weather's a little bit better I'm going to go and walk the stages that I have maps for and work out where I can go that'll have less trees, is north or south facing (depending on stage direction), better backgrounds and a stage layout that encourages something more dynamic to happen with the cars. Trying to work it out from an overhead map on the event day is letting me down.

Darren,
Planning is always good as is experience.

That said there are trees in these shots and spectators ,so why not use them ,shoot wider and longer ,am sure they would be hugely improved just with that .

I believe it's about painting a picture of an Event through the photos ,something that can be looked back on years to come .
Just my thoughts.

Next year, forget College Moor and go to Roppa. It's not quite as easy to access so the Peasants tend to stay away :)
