I use 43"-45" and 60" umbrellas for wedding work, and I tend to have issues with them dying prematurely after drops. My longest-lasting umbrella was a PCB 60" that died simply after use, never dropped. Spines broke.

I think the last design I got was Photogenic Eclipse 60", but I found that they were critically flawed in that the black backing tears very early in their lifetime and they become white shoot-thrus when that happens.

So now I just ordered Adorama's 60" 16-spine white bounce.

Impact (BHphoto) is Okay, not great. I have a pair of 43" from them right now.

Other suggestions for more durable, longer-lasting ones, preferably with no critical flaws and possibly with a white liner on the black backing instead of just a plain black backing that absorbs light?

I would just get a Westcott 7 Feet Parabolic Umbrella, better control of light spill

Frames are constructed using a fiberglass composite offering added strength and durability over standard steel or aluminum frames.

You must be tough on yours. I've got Photogenic Eclipse umbrellas (external link) that are almost a decade old and I've never had that happen.

Photoflex. Fiberglass ribs. I'm brutal on mine, and they take it. They're extremely high quality and not much more than cheap no-names.
