I want to buy 2 10x36 or something close to that size softbox with grid for my B800. PCB wants around $350 for both with grid. I found some on eBay for way much cheaper, but I wonder about the quality of these eBay softbox. Also I'm assuming that the the eBay softbox aren't foldable that's why they are cheaper??

Can somebody please share their experience with me about these eBay softbox. Thanks!!

I've bought a few they're pretty decent aslong as you get something relatively reputable.

Even eBay has low-end/high-end.

Visico is the common recommended softbox from ebay.

I ordered some strip boxes by a company called Visico. They were like 50 bucks shipped with bowens rings on them. The local store had a pair of creative lighting strips with rings for 440. I find it hard to believe I am going to see 300 dollars of difference in lighting between the two. I read some reviews on this topic and these strips got better than expected reviews for the price. We shall see!

I bought the visico octabox for roughly $60. Very solid build quality, perhaps too good as its a bit heavy. But it performs great.

Nice...there you go OP. I am not planning to go mobile with these so I think I will be happy. I do have the speedlight apollo strip and a speedlight beauty dish if I decide to venture out of my house lol.

just know that visco softboxes tend to introduce a pink cast due to the white material they use.

I wonder if it really is only the white material shifting the hue and not the silver inside, it would be fairly easy to grab a white diffusion from chimera or other higher end strips to counter it if it was.

^not sure if it's the silver material as silver is typically a neutral color. I believe it's the type of material that visico uses which creates the slight pink shift in the white fabric. Then again, I have yet to find a white material that won't shift over time.

-visico shifts slightly pink (probably due to the plastic components in the material: gary fong diffusers--the first runs shifted pink over time due to UV contaminating the plastic)
-alienbees (plm diffusion fabrics) shifts slightly yellow over time
-photoflex softboxes also shift slightly yellow over time

most fabrics will shift over it's product life. it's just a fact of life.

Interesting, i also found Visico to shift a bit pink, but the PLM gave me a blue shift.

My rotaluxes haven't shown any shift yet :)
