Has anyone come across a good USB 3.0 Card Reader yet? I bought an internal one from newegg and it didn't work at all, so I need to buy a new one. I would like to find a nice internal reader, but I'm not having much luck.

I'm interested to hear from people who are using usb 3.0

I'm considering one too.
I've looked at Lexar's and Trandscend's.
Haven't committed yet, though. I will when I get my new cards in a few months.

Having read reviews i'd get the Transcend if I cared about downloading my images really quickly. I decided to be patient, since a 16GB card takes what I guess is around five minutes to download.

I have a Kingston usb 3.0 card reader. Plenty fast for me. On my 400x card it reads about 90MB/s its great for offloading 32GB of photos and video.

I don't have it yet, so I can't tell you how well it works or not, but it was recommended to me by a couple respectable guys on this forum... If you want to know more you can PM me after Wednesday to see what I think.. lol..

Hi

I have reviewed several USB 3.0 readers. You can see the results here: http://usb3.thedocaus.com/ (external link)

I have some suggestions on "The Winner" page.

Recently built a new i7-2600K rig and purchased the below USB 3.0 internal 5.25" bay multicard reader that accomodates every card on the market. It is a little pricey but well worth it and it also comes with a USB 3.0 port :

Reporting back....
The reader I purchased works just fine.... not sure what you look for in a good reader, but it opens the files quickly, and it works.... lol.. ;)

Ron, I have something similar to that in my tower.. might swap it out some day, but first I need to find out why it isn't reading the cards.... the drive shows up in my list of drives, but it doesn't recognize a card in it... so weird...

What's the best way to test out a USB 3.0 card reader?

I've picked one up from Fry's a few weeks ago (SIIG) , and haven't really noticed any difference. Granted I only have a 30mb/s Sandisk card.

Real world performance is the best way to test. I notice a massive improvement when importing photos on my USB 3 vs USB 2 reader.

You could use a disk speed benchmark to compare your USB 3 reader versus your older reader.
