I always have an iffy feeling of my sigmalux on my 5D2...sometimes it's sharp whilst other times it just seems to ff/bf. I think I has to do with the focusing distance....no sure if MA can eliminate that completely :(

That's exactly the problem I have with mine - while I can MA it, it only seems to fix the problem at short distances, and as a result throws the focus on long distances, or visa versa.

Its a pain.. Iv recently read about removing some of the shims to improve AF quality....I might give that a go tonight.

So ... conclusions ... at least mines : very good IQ at 2.8 , decent at 2.0 but dissapointing at 1.4
Another thing is that i do have 1 of 3 or 4 shots slight out-of-focus. So if needed, shoot 2-3 with autofocus each time one frame.

i actually think thats pretty good wide open.

ive had 2 and both needed +10 MA on my 5d2... thought it was the lens so i sent the second one back to be callibrated and came back the same. turns out the lens was perfect on my 7d and my 5dc... just not my 5d2. i should have noticed something when both sigma 50's i had needed +10 on the same body.

my issue with sigma lenses is not the back or front focus issue... that can be adjusted by the camera. ive noticed that in difficult lighting or dark situations the lens tends to miss all together and is inconsistent. ive shot a few in dim situations where i would fire 3 of the same shots and refocusing everytime just to make sure and it would focus on something thats a few feet behind what i actually focus on... very annoying. but this has happened to my 35L a few times too. its proabbaly that state of the art AF system in the 5d2

but in bright situations in daylight and high contrast stuff it locks on perfect and sharp everytime.

Mine was perfect from out the box. It's my favourite lens on 5D2.
