This usually shows up on older lenses. I wouldn't mind about it...
Anyway... if you really want to get rid of it, I used a soft eraser pencil and got pretty good results. Just take care for the dust that comes out of the eraser don't get into the lens... work slowly and with very light pressure. Took me about 20 minutes to clean and worked like a charm. I'm sure it will come back eventually, though....

Photography is about GEAR and not talent or practice. Practice won't make you a better photographer. Expensive equipment will. =D

It is pretty easy to clean that up. Buy some plastic/rubber cleaner/protectant (mild strength). A cheap and easily available cleaner is this:

It is a car interior cleaner but it is a very mild one. I put a tiny bit on a paper towel and clean the grip with it. It gets the white off and reconditions the plastic. It results in a like new look.

Be careful with armor all, they usually contain very strong cleaners/detergents for heavy cleaning. Make sure what you use is mild. Also it is very important that the product you use is made for plastics and rubber.
