Thanks to neimad19 for the heads up on the night of the 13th November 2012. I was getting ready to go to bed when I checked this site, and he had mentioned a good chance for geomagnetic activity. I grabbed my gear (forgot the second camera) and headed out to find high ground to show big sky. I used my 7D with a Tokina 11-16mm and played with settings all night. I minimized moving the camera around which was hard, because there was incredible activity all over the sky, but I really wanted to capture the essence of what I was seeing. It was an amazing night, calm, only -6C and very, very quiet.

The time-lapse is interesting in that the aurora swirled like a whirlpool for quite some time. I have not seen that before so it was a new experience. Very cool!

This is part of my new "crosswalk series" that I'm casually working on. Pedestrians beware.

Where are you sitting when you shoot these? What is your setup?

I'm just looking out of my office window (3 stories up overlooking the street).

I was shooting with the 100-400 initially. But I've since switched over to the 200 w/ the 2x TC. (The photos posted so far from the series were taken with the 100-400.)

What a great event to take in Moogul! That first shot has a big cinematic look/feel to it - very cool shot!

Beautiful hummer shots Peter, well done. I love this little bird. A shame we don't have them.
