All I ever see on the CL in my area is people trying to sell Rebel bodies and kit lenses for about twice what they're worth. Looking through earlier today, saw a used 18-55 listed for $150, when you can buy them brand new for cheaper than that.

Most of the time yes I agree. But once in a long while you'll find a great deal. I recently found a 24-70L for $700 and a 17-40L+1D3 for $900. Neither were stolen and I'm pretty sure of it. You got to be lucky and have cash on hand.

$20 for a mk1 50mm is insane. What's the reason it was so cheap for?

Older gentleman, bought it back in 1988, he had just bought a canon g12 and was selling all his old film gear. It was in a photo attached to what looked like the origional film rebel. I emailed him asking what he wanted for just the lens, he said $20. Some people just don't bother to google what they have.

I've had good luck with CL and camera gear. I picked up a Vivitar 19-35 for $50 that looked brand new in the box. Same day I got an EOS3 and Elan 7e for another $125 off a guy.

Both were legit deals. One was a student that was doing photojournalism and changed her major. The other was a local photog that was cleaning out his 35mm gear.

My camera says Canon and goes clickity clickity click.

I recently just picked up a 50mm 1.4 from craigslist from 165. The guy was well aware of the going prices and just wanted to sell it quickly and hassle free.

I did get offered a fully built and custom AR15 with a eotech holo sight, about 10 mags, and pelican case for my 70-200mm F/2.8 IS. I was extremely tempted but I had to remind my self I was selling the 70-200mm for a 16-35mm F/2.8 MKI and a 85mm f/1.8.

THat's just how my local Craiglist is too. ;)
Occasionally you do see a good deal though that's legit... but they don't last very long at all
