Lets see what I see on CL.

1. 1Dmark IV (or name the body and lens) for 800. Spam bot collecting live email address.
2. Rebel kits that cost 2x as a new one does.
3. 20D for a 1000 dollars
4. If you put a piece of photography equipment for sale at the going rate in about 10 mins you will get threeemails. First email is somebody out of the country that needs it shipped. The 2nd person wants to trade you something worthless when you have NO trades in your add. 3rd, email will be somebody really interested asks bout 10 questions then you will never hear from them again.

Maybe I"m jaded, but so far thats been most 90% my experiences with CL.

Came here to post this.

I did find my 70-210 F4, EOS 650 and 35-70 kit lens for 25 dollars though, all fully functional, that was a nice surprise

ive bought and sold lenses off Craigslist over the past few years. I have had great luck buying low and selling high. I wouldnt say all low prices are stolen goods. someone might have a lens that the paid 800 and assume after a year that selling it for 50% is a good deal for them. If the dont do the research, whose fault is that?

Ok, I scored pretty decently on Saturday off Craigslist. Guy had 3 bodies and lenses for $60. Nikon N80 with a Tamron 28-200, Nikon 28-80G, AE-1 Program with 50mm 1.4, couple of other off-brand lenses for it, and a Miniolta Maxxum 5 with a AF75-300, Sigma 28mm prime 1.8, and the kit lens. Also included a crap flash and 2 camera bags. Drove 2 hours for it. When I asked him why he was selling, he said he bought a Nikon D90, and doesn't shoot film anymore. Fair enough!

If steroids are illegal for athletes, should PS be illegal for models?

All I ever see on the CL in my area is people trying to sell Rebel bodies and kit lenses for about twice what they're worth. Looking through earlier today, saw a used 18-55 listed for $150, when you can buy them brand new for cheaper than that.

As a city cop, I can say we tend to see huge amounts of stolen property turned on CL. We also see a massive amount of robberies coming from CL meetings.

My humble suggestion is to arrange to meet your prospective buyer or seller in the parking lot of the local police station. If they won't come, you just saved yourself a lot of trouble, or worse.

I almost always meet in a Starbucks. Get to have a place to sit and chat, with plenty of people (witnesses) and security cameras. Most of what I have bought has come with the original box and everything with it. Makes me feel better about things not being stolen.

98% of the CL ads for photo gear (and music instruments, my other area of interest, for that matter) are worthless...gear that's ancient, Rebel kits for more than new price, or the quality gear that shows up once in a blue moon is posted by someone who thinks they are going to get rich off it, creepy people wanting to meet in sketchy locations...

...but that other 2% of the time makes it all worth it. Just got a 16-35L 2.8 in perfect condition for $600. It was being sold by an older lady who is a doctor at a great hospital, she was just looking to downsize from all of her heavy gear. Good day for me, I can't wait for my next shoot so I can try it out.

My quite modest little gear list: 50D gripped | 135L | 50 1.4 | 50 1.8 | 85 1.8 | 28-105 3.5-4.5 | Speedlite 420EX | 2 Yongnuo 460ii | stands, 2 umbrellas, one softbox

I recently got a Sigma 70-200 2.8 OS HSM in perfect shape for $750 from CL. Got an entire camera bag for $40 this summer. Sold the junk I didn't want for $90, and kept a pristine 28 2.8. Fantastic deals. I always keep an eye on CL for bargains.

Last year I saw an EF 600 f/4 listed for $600. I contacted the buyer and went so far as to establish a price and a meeting place. I sent all of the e-mails to the (seller's) local police department with an explanation that this equipment HAS TO BE stolen. They didn't care! They actually told me that if it is stolen and I buy it and bring it in, they would confiscate it! WTF! Go confiscate if from the people who have it now!. I could not persuade them to do anything. Don't get you camera stolen in Niles, Michigan.

I don't know anything about those lenses but it seems like a deal.

for those type of cameras the sensor is significantly smaller than that on slr's so it'd be more or less worthless for adapting to an EOS system.
