Why I love craigslist...

Finally caught a pretty good deal.

$75 for a 580EX at a yard sale. Has cosmetic wear but works great.

I think that's how much I paid for it brand new with a 2 lens kit back in the day. I didn't know it would hold it's value over the years. I guess I got ripped off when i sold it.

This thread got me all excited about trying CL... I saw someone selling a Canon EOS 3 film camera with a 24mm f/2.8 lens for $250. Checking around it looked like a good copy of the 24mm would go for around $300, and I thought, "THIS is going to be it: my big flip." Then I emailed the seller and he/she said that the lens was quite scratched. Alas. No such thing as a free lunch, I guess.

Film IS the white balance adjustment... load different film!

I traded my 24-105 mint still under a repair warranty for a slightly-used 60d, on here, local, had I tried that on Craigslist I would have been waiting months and have been bombarded by people trying to trade me their 4-year-old laptop for it or offer me 500 for that lens.

Wow, I feel like I am one of the few, after reading this thread. I do a lot of buying and selling on CL, and have for the most part done pretty well. LOVE the idea of meeting at the local cop shop, though. Never thought of that!

I got a really nice Zeiss Ikonta 521/2 off CL a few years back. Still very happy with that pickup. Shortly before, an old film photog in Kerrville put up a big lot of FD lenses--including a FD 400mm L--all for $500. I talked to the guy, and he was old, hadn't shot anything in years, and said "FD lenses aren't worth anything." I didn't have $500 (heck, I didn't even have $100 at the time) but I was sorely tempted to skip the house payment or something that month.

Recently sold my canon 45 tse on FM. Much better experience than what I was having on craigslist.

I received the whole lot of nussances:
1. Guy who asks a 100 questions and then keeps rescheduling meeting you over weird
reasons then disappears.
2. Scam - asking for shipment overseas and not wanting to meet 2/2 "work busy"
3. Multiple "I have 200-500 dollars right now" ---- um no thanks....

Seriously, where are you guys having these excellent CL experiences

i think buying on craigslist gives better experiences than selling...say you find a low priced deal...you email/call/text saying you'll take it...meet up and your done...there's no hassle for the buyer there

True true!

I've had excellent results from craigslist. High end appliances for dirt cheap prices... too bad for all those people getting foreclosed on. Recently got a tamron 17-50 for 270 on CL, and that includes shipping.
