Ok, have up till now, been using cheap ebay tubes with any old lens. Now got the 100 USM and have at last got to use it, these are taken with minimul fill.

Really after C&C on whether they are going the right way, and how to get the "bug" in full focus or do you sacrifice that for eye shots etc, or do i read up on stacking?

you're definitely going the right direction danny, good work!

As for focus, you're going to be limited on your dof. Best thing to do is focus on the eyes so that they are sharp. The rest of the body will obviously vary, only way to counter that is to do a focus stack (you can of course up close up the aperture if you're using a flash). I would also make sure that you're using something decent to steady the camera, these two shots look like your focal point is just just a tad off, which could totally happen in between the focus and the shutter if you are hand holding the camera. Keep up the practice, it will come in time :)

Thanks for the advice, Rick I know you said the 60 in another thread but as I was budget limited I could not go that high. But I got some O/T by luck and went 100 as I would imagine you would have said that 1

I would be happy with these if I had taken them.

Keep it up.
