How to take MACROs of the eyes (noob)

Morning All ..

I've snapped MACROs of the kid's eyes with some success but the one thing I can't figure out is how to eliminate my own reflection in them.

I have never owned a CPL and am planning on getting one for my landscapes; would a CPL eliminate the reflection(s)?

I'd appreciate any insight you sages have to offer in this regard

Two things come to mind immediately... one is trying to light from the sides, but as the eyes are round that might not work.

The other is cross-polarization. In a nutshell, you place a polarizer over the flash AND another over the lens... with the polarization set to 90 degrees of each other. This technique eliminates most highlights which might help as well.

Another thought just popped in there... if you can get the light onto the face without getting it onto the camera (keep the camera in a shadow relative to the light source) might help.
