I think they're great Alan, even with the "undesirable" perch.

You take what you can get, as far as perches go, with birds. These are some nice captures, Alan. :)

Thanks Sharon... Definitely one of my personal favorite raptors

I agree.... I even tried waiting them out for a few hours and it went to another pole. Sometimes seeing them is the reward ;(

Thanks !!! ... I was able to see 7 - 8 different ones this year and never got to the golden opportunity. This guy could have cared I was near him on the pole. I even talked to a few locals while standing near him and he didnt really care. Such awesome birds ;)

great shots--clicked through to your site--you've got some really nice in flight shots of it as well, (and no unsightly perch :) ). Nice work. Where was this, if you don't mind my asking?

Great shots Alan even if the perch isn't the best! I'm really liking the second shot and looks like he was right on top of you. They really are awesome birds.

The ones on the site were from 2011 in Ogle County near Byron... The newer ones I have seen while out and about. The irruption produced quite a few and its awesome just to see them ... I was fortunate to see what I have seen but I believe they have migrated as I was not able to locate over the past weekend...

I was literally right next to me the pole.. he watched as I moved around but wasnt the least bit startled .... fun moment to say the least. he perched there for about 40 min

The bird is too beautiful to be paying any attention to a perch! Both bird and images are great, Alan.

Thanks Levina... I was just happy to spend some time with them. I look forward to doing it again later this year

I didn't either and the shocker was even after he did that, stayed for half hr. I thought it was flying ...lol

I have seen several pics with them on poles... The other favorite spot is a looking way out in the field. I had one that stayed there for 8 hrs in the same spot lol
