Im a firm believer that anyone can make a picture look amazing by using PS.

I'm not sure what you mean by that sentence. Some people are clueless with Photoshop (it can take years to master it), and some photos are so bad to begin with that no amount of editing will ever save them, regardless. (And believe me, I know; I've taken plenty of my own in the latter category! ;) )

... Im a firm believer that anyone can make a picture look amazing by using PS. ... Anyone else the same?

While I agree generally with this statement, specifically, I don't agree with 'anyone'. I believe it takes a person with patience, a certain mindset, and honed skills to use the program to its potential. I am NOT that guy.

That said, I'm fairly certain that all amazing pictures have been pp. It's just a matter of degree. I'm mean, nature's colors just aren't that naturally brilliant, you know?

Fire away, y'all.

then again, i'm not skilled in post and don't feel like putting the effort learning more.

I hardly ever use Photoshop anymore after adopting a Lightroom workflow. When I do end up in Photoshop it's usually for stitching together a panorama or making use of the advanced tools.

I really prefer MS Paint. There's something to be said for achieving success with crappy tools.

That said, I'm fairly certain that all amazing pictures have been pp.

I would go a step further and say that all amazing pictures were captured correctly in the camera and then had competent post processing applied.

Whenever a thread like this comes up, it always seems to be started by somebody who considers post processing unnecessary. They say things like " ...i dont like the idea of messing around with a picture to MAKE it look nice. Im a firm believer that anyone can make a picture look amazing by using PS." which IMO shows a lack of understanding on their part. To get the best results, the capture and the processing need to be done well.

I should make clear that when I say "captured correctly in camera" I don't mean trying to capture a 'perfect' image in camera. I mean capturing the image in a way that allows the image to post processed easily and effectively.

bw!

Personally, I absolutely hate post processing...

Wish I never had to do it at all...

But it's an unavoidable necessary evil so yeah, I have LR and CS5...

Still using Corel Graphics Suite, but I need to update it (it finally reads RAW files now!)...

I do 90% of pp is LR but I do use and love Photoshop. Like was previously mentioned, if you are shooting RAW, some pp has to be done. Also, if you are in business, you have to do all that fancy schmancy editing to stay competitive.

I don't hate PS but I avoid using it to force myself to get better with LR. However there are just some types of sharpening that can't be equaled in LR and CS5 content aware fill still wipes the floor with LR clone and heal. I keep saying LR is enough, but I always get the latest PS upgrade just in case.

I look forward to the day when LR finally gets all the best photo editing functionality of PS but I doubt it happens anytime soon...
