Yes, they are something special, especially when we don't have these guys down here. This is a great shot Shawn.

Nothing special.

I disagree, I think it's a very nice shot. Interesting to see the darker plumage on the back end of the bird. Is that usual on this variety of Nuthatch?

It is special for me too, Shawn. I've never seen one of these even. I love the pose you caught it in. A lovely image.

Great shot, Shawn! I've been looking for one of these guys all winter, no luck yet.

Seems to be quite usual here.
Below is another image.
The bird appears almost blue in color, might have to check my color settings, but I believe it is just the sky reflecting off the feathers.

Thanks everyone!
I have to remember that just because it is common to me doesn't mean it is common to everyone.
I see these so often, I rarely photograph them.

Hmmmmm, I may have to start a new thread "Common Birds In Your Neck Of The Woods".

You'll never convince me Shawn that there's "Nothing Special" about any WBN capture....just check my avatar if you have doubts - :)
Yours is another of the classic poses, but the branch perch fading to blur adds additional interest to the image. I like it a lot, but them I'm biased too.
As for the blue in the wing and back feathers, it's definitely there (responds to both hue and saturation sliders nicely), but I don't think it actually darkens towards the tail. Maybe what Mark is seeing is the mix of blue with the black wing tips and tail.....maybe - ;), or as you suggested maybe the sky reflection.

Good to know that the blue isn't just my imagination playing tricks on me.
Thanks!
