Hi all,
I've read most of what I can find here in regard to 9 or 10 stop strong ND filters and I want to finally buy something decent but I'm hoping to not regret it and end up selling it for something different right away...
I'm pretty much just looking at screw-in (77mm) for now. My thoughts being that if the lee big stopper was readily available I'd probably justify dealing with square filters and spending a little extra. But otherwise, I'd like to keep the cost somewhat in check and since I don't plan on messing around with GNDs anytime too soon so I think a screw in ND filter is just the best bet for now.
From what I understand, my options seem to be either the Hoya 9 stop or the B+W 110 10-stop and I'm leaning toward the B+W. I like the variable filters but I can't afford a decent one so unless there's something truly worth buying for under $200 I don't think that's in consideration either....
So, on to my real question.... I've heard that it's not necessarily worth getting an MRC multi-coated filter for the NDs since it will make less of a difference than it does with other filters. I've heard this lots of places but didn't really know why. Has anyone used both or does anyone have a link to some other reviews I might be missing? Any actual tests posted anywhere? The cheapest prices I'm finding seem to be $120ish for the regular and $180ish for the multi. Is it worth getting the MRC one or should I just be waiting for the Lee Big Stopper in the first place?
