After going back and forth in my mind for some time, I recently acquired a new Canon 1D Mark IV. I’ve been doing a lot thinking about getting this camera and finally gave in over Christmas.
Of course I’m still learning the ropes and trying to get things dialed in but so far it’s an excellent camera.

Also we’ve been fortunate to have Harris’s Sparrows and White-crowned Sparrows the last several winters in our backyard feed station but this winter we have some new visitors... White-throated Sparrows.
I have always wanted to get shots of them and have only seen them at a distance. They’re not too shy and I captured several shots of them. They’re really pretty Sparrows.

Here a couple shots of each. Hope you enjoy and thanks for looking in.

Oh, I like those. The 1D mk IV does seem capable of capturing detail that the 7D misses (e.g. the two colours within the birds eyes) I suppose for the price that's to be expected. Maybe if the price comes down when the 1D X comes online (yeah, I know, dream on)

I really think the Mk IV is the ultimate birding camera, Brad, so, good choice. And congrats on such an important purchase (it is, isn't it, when the price tag is like that!). These images show how well a choice if was for these shots are great with beautiful IQ. I'd say that camera is in good hands!!

Those are beautiful Sparrow captures Brad!
I really like the 1st White-throated shot, the 2nd Harris', and both of the White-crowned. I have a new found respect for Sparrows and their beauty, and your captures do nothing but make my respect grow. Great job!
I too jumped on the 1DIV band wagon just recently so I applaud your decision. Like you, I'm finding that the camera knows how to do a whole lot more than I do - :).
Let's keep shooting and posting and comparing notes....it should be interesting!

Huge congrats Brad on the new toy, looks like it's a keeper. These are all wonderful shots, I would love to have a few of the Harris' Sparrows show up down here, pretty bird.

Great set and nice camera...the Hariss' Sparrow gets most of my attention as that is a bird I am most interested in seeing and photographing.

Well that camera looks like it works just fine! And it also looks as if the operator knows how to use it. :) Great images.
