Yes, I am new to POTN. I know this. I've got a ton of transactions online over at Fredmiranda. I also have a ton of feedback on ebay (lowmk2golf) and fourthirdsphoto.com (lowa2, http://forum.fourthirdsphoto.com/itrader.php?u=4368 (external link))... so when it comes to online buying, I've had great luck and have a perfect reputation.

Recently though, I've been in the market for a used 5D2, and found one here. Initially, the seller was very friendly, and responded to my PM's rather normally. I paid him, we had a few PM's back and forth, but unfortunately he hasn't replied to either my PM's or my emails since monday. I've looked at his status, and he's been online every day since he's stopped communicating with me....

I've contacted Paypal, and they told me to basically wait 7 days from when I paid him (friday), and then they'll think about doing something. Luckily, I didn't use the paypal gift option, as requested by the seller

Anyone have any other ideas on what to do?

Regards,

Charles.

He's got over 2,600 posts to his account. I'd find it hard to believe he's a scammer, though stranger things have happened. All you can do right now is wait the 7 days as requested by PayPal I think.

That's what I thought when I saw the number of posts, I thought for sure that he was legit. And the way the people were talking to him, seemed like a nice guy.

I'm debating calling him at this time, but I may only do that after the 7 day waiting period from paypal expires.

I'd call him before filing the complaint with PayPal, give him the benefit of the doubt. That said, it's not my money! I actually bought a 5D2 myself from a user on here, brand new, no issues.

Have a little patience. Don't panic because it has been 2 days since you heard from seller. And, be careful about prematurely trashing someone.

I'm not trying to do ANYTHING to his reputation. I am simply asking what I should do because I've never faced a situation like this before.

It's like I said, he seems like a stand up guy and maybe he's shipped the camera already, but I have no way of knowing this until he replies to one of my PM's or emails. For me 2 days wait with no replies is pretty long, especially since I've sent him almost 1900$ of my hard earned $$ :p

OP - I understand your concern. However, you should have left out his user name though. I agree with other posters that two days is not that long, so something could have happened to him since he has been here posting for a long time. Again, I do understand your fear/anxiety when the dollar is this high.

You could always pm some of the other people that have been posting on his FS thread and see if they are having the same experience. He may be very busy with requests for information on his items for sale.

My mistake, I've edited his name out.

I had a transaction with someone on FM that I didn't hear for 4 days. It turn out that he was called for business duty and didn't have access to internet. Hard to believe but I believed him. The transaction wasn't as high as yours but I understand how you feel.

Personally, I think you're jumping the gun. If you were bugging him enough, I wouldn't be surprised if he ignored you for a few days. In any case it's impossible to lose a chargeback or paypal dispute if the buyer never sent anything and can't provide a tracking number. You have nothing to worry about.

2 days isn't a lot. I don't think you should jump to a conclusion until it's been at least a week... preferably 2 weeks. There may be reasons he/she can't respond as soon as possible. I know there are 1-2 week stretches I won't log onto this forum, or I'm just too busy to reply to the surge of PM's if I was just selling/buying a bunch of stuff. There was a time I was selling a pile of expensive textbooks on Amazon and I didn't know someone paid for and bought them until 1 1/2 weeks later, I decided to check my account and found out I had a buyer from that long ago (Amazon is something I don't check very often). These were books I didn't expect to sell at all.

Although I understand how you feel, being new to trading like this. I sometimes still feel like that..

He said the seller has had activity in the last few days, with unanswered PMs. PMs aren't something you easily miss. It's fairly obvious the guy must be ignoring it--but that's not necessarily a bad thing. If he hasn't gotten around to shipping yet, no sense responding until it's done.

Well he's finally responded. Everything looks good!

He was indeed very busy shipping and packaging his other equipment. My simple and only reason for posting here was to get other people's opinion. So I sincerely thank you all for giving me you input.

When I contacted another buyer of his equipment, he also was having a similar experience to mine.

To me, ive never had to wait more than 1 day to get a response on a sale, so that's probably why I was so nervous.

Regards,

Charles
