I saw this movie this past weekend and found it very interesting. I knew Hurlbut was the DP on it and if you know anything about him he is always the first to drag out the Canon 5D2 to start shooting with. He is one of the leading DSLR shootings here in the US.

The 5D2 wasn't used for all the shots of this movie, only the best parts! The action shots were all done using an armada of 5D2's using all sorts of different lenses. If the SEALs were in action, so was the 5D2. One of the most amazing scenes in the movie was when the Swift boats totally unloaded their mini-guns at 2400 rounds per minute into the bad guys. An amazing scene for sure. But here's the crazy part. That was all live fire! That's how the SEALs train, so that's how it was shot. FREAKIN' Crazy!

Here's a link to Hurlbut's blog telling all about it with lots of pictures:

Go see the movie, not the best acting in the world, but that's not why you're there! ;) The US Navy SEALs are total Bad A$$es!

OK, just to correct some stuff: They weren't Swift boats (even thou they were very fast) the name of the boats are SWCC boats and the mini-guns lay down 2300 rounds per minute. My bad.
The scene in the movie was awsome because they had 4 of these guns blazing on two different boats.

Also, here's the Flickr page with 130 different behind the scenes images from production of the movie.

Very good, did you know there is a South Florida connection via. the Bandito Brothers to that movie?

Opps sorry to mention that, too bad in your opinion we southern boys are too are too stupid, to be involved in real reality productions...............

Now back to our regular programming of wife swapping "reality" shows.

You don't want to go there, that brass will slice your hands like razor blades, once fired the open end of those rounds are nothing you want to be near, trust me on that one.

There really is no film anymore if you will, Panavision has ceased production of film cameras, and we at the SMPTE have been working on “digital distribution” for years now and now finally, the printing and distribution of film will cease, as it should.

The future of cinema, is finally, finally dammit, going fully digital to digital, similar to a manner pushed by Knopfler for audio in the early 80’s.

Why Wayne, why? Where did I ever say anything like that? The fact is, I never did. You're just stirring up the pot aren't you?

Yeah, I understand that the Bandito Bros. did this movie. Excellent work! So? There are lots of great production people all over this country, even in Colorado.

I expect that your post to be removed, it does nothing but bash.

Gotta disagree. Some of the biggest movies of this year were shot on film.

The Artist
A Better Life
Bridesmaids
The Descendants
Footnote
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt2
The Help
The Ides of March
In Darkness
The Iron Lady
Margin Call
Midnight in Paris
Moneyball
My Week with Marilyn
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
The Tree of Life
W.E.
War Horse
Warrior

I am all for innovation and forward thinking but I see no reason why film should cease to exist entirely. Digital and analog can live happily together and those who want to shoot either should have the option IMO.

Key term "were," with film/reel to theatre distribution ending in 2012 and being replaced with studio to theatre digital distribution via VSAT, utilizing CineLink II encryption, films days are numbered.

And this isn’t done just to cut down on printing and distribution costs, it is also done to preclude bootlegging, with film all one needs is an unlocked projection booth and access to a digital intermediate laser scanner and one has a very nice bootleg copy of a first run movie, with CineLink II the content remains encoded and date enabled and should someone crack the code or tap the stream to the projector the images are still imbedded with a unique serial number exclusive to each theater.

No film is not dead yet, but it’s in hospice that’s for sure.

Wow, look at you Wanye, Johnny on the spot. Thank God you posted that, AGAIN...

Are you that blind that you missed it the first time I posted it in the opening post of this thread? Or is it that you just breeze over everything I write and then just disagree with it. Not even knowing what a person has said. You're just here to stir up the pot, cause arguments and say rediculas things.

Yes, film is going away, get over it. What, do you have a crap load of stock with Kodak? Heck if you had your way were wouldn't even have these digital cameras and we'd be shooting on 8mm. So why are you even here if this whole march toward digital in, digital out upsets you so? Don't they have a old crumudgin's group you can go to down there in Florida?

Way to ruin another perfectly good thread...

Oh, and you'd better post the link the Flickr page of all the behind the scenes images before someone else does.

OH, wait, I did that already...

You don't have to tell me. The term 'film' will never leave though. I love digital - matter of fact, I have an Epic rented in a couple of months.
