As there was a clear night tonight and a more interesting moon (not the glare of a full moon), the reasonably new 100-400 was mounted on the tripod and pointed in it's direction:
Of course, with digital, you don't just take one image - sorting through the few I took (at different settings), I noticed a dark spot on the southern edge:
1000x1000 100% crop, sharpened
Close inspection reveals what I belive to be a shadow of a passing satelite:
screen capture from DPP at 200% view
(bugger, just realised I have photobucket set to resize to 640x480 - for another fourm I participate in).
I've looked at Stellarium but have been unable to determine which satelite it might have been (Select Birmingham, United Kingdom 2012-02-29 at 19:36:06 if you wish to investigate). That time is correct as my camera's clock was 1m28s fast - it's now been corrected.
the later images are clear of the shadow (illiminating a mark on the lens)
Interesting.
