1D series servo center versus outer point

Every piece of advice on getting maximum AF servo performance from a 1 series body starts with "Use center point".

My question is if newer 1 series bodies have (or are supposed to have) outer AF points of equal sensitivity to the center one are those outer points not as good to use?

Again, this is for maximum servo performance on newer 1 series bodies like 1D3 & 1D4.
