I'm pretty sure I'll be upgrading to a 5d2 in the pretty near future. I'm coming from a t2i. I just have a quick question. Is the AF system on these 2 cameras equal or is one better than the other?

Define "better"... maybe it would be more interesting to define "upgrading" - ???

Both have 9 focusing points - each with one center cross type -
T2i has a 63 zones the 5D2 has 35 zones. Does the number of zones mean anything to you?

You can compare up to three Canon EOS cameras head to head at CanonUSA.com, (but not all specs at once) - or you can print out all the specs and compare them and have all the info in front of you. Being able to interpret it is something else.

You can call Canon's tech support # and ask them to explain the differences. Chances are you'll get more accurate information - but that doesn't necessarily mean it will be information that will be of value to you.

Wow, what a nice picture! You must have a really great camera!

Actually, to be honest, I don't even know what the "zones" are so I'm not sure that does matter. The majority of the time I'm using only the center point.

I've used both quite a bit and from normal use for portraits and people and cars and automotive the AF seems the same in both cameras.

more importantly... why do you want or need to "upgrade"?

I use both for landscape and portrait; but never sport.
Using live view, the T2i is lots better / intelligent than 5D2.
The AF points on viewfinder with 5D2 are far more easier visible / bigger than T2i.
