This House Finch posed for me a few minutes. I don't see them very often around here.

I just found this guy by pure dumb luck while I had my camera in my hand. andrewhuxman wrote in post #14001969 Very nice image Bill. I spotted this guy near the town of Caldwell which is about 100 miles northwest of Houston and 200 miles south of where I live in the DFW area. I have yet to see them around here. Mar 02, 2012 01:26 | #8 A nice shot Bill. We have quite a few Finches here on the east side of the Metroplex. It's strange and I guess it's just the area. In the nearly 10 years of living here, I very rarely see or hear Blue Jays. Brad

The Blue Jays and Crows are gradually coming back on the western side of the metroplex after being nearly wiped out by the West Nile Virus several years ago. kmunroe wrote in post #14004970 lovely shot Bill Thank you, Ken. CamFan01 wrote in post #14005793 That is a very pretty capture Bill; I love the colors and the color these guys bring to the backyard. I too have noticed that their numbers are reduced this year in my area. I have no obvious reason for it either. Thanks for the comments, Steve. I wish that they would show up in the DFW area. They are very pretty birds and I don't think that the sRGB color space of the posted image is able to do justice to the beautiful red color. JTX wrote in post #14007727 Oh I see you weren't Home at the time of the shot. Interesting. I would have thought these guys were more active around more of the state than just down here towards the coastline. Even at Caldwell, I don't spot these birds very often. It is interesting that Cardinals seem to be one of the most abundant bird around Caldwell, probably due to the abundance of yaupon hollies. Where I live in the Metroplex, I only see cardinals occasionally. Atmospheric haze in images? Click for Tutorial to Reduce Atmospheric Haze with Photoshop.
