I find the actual discussion of the camera much more interesting and informative (speculation or not…by posters like shadowblade and nicksan) than the one-liners and platitudes from the cheerleader crowd. In the end, those kinds of comments contain the least value, and offer almost no insight or intrigue save for a tedious meta nature.

I would agree if the discussion was based on realistic terms, not pictures taken by different people under different conditions with different competencies! Really, so far it's all just rubbish from any scientific point of view.

I will be testing any camera I plan to puchase before closing the deal, so it doesn't worry me. What does worry me a bit is that certain posters, with no evidence for the theories they put forward, get so angry when people doubt them that they resort to name calling and sarcasm. For heavens sake you guys, go out and make some pictures or something!

Growing old disgracefully!

Still far more interesting than meta discussion and platitudes, no matter how inane the comparisons.

Dunno guys. All I did was download some CR2 files from Imaging Resource and did a side-by-side for those who can't view the RAW files (Anyone can view them actually. All you need is the Beta version of Camera Raw, which allows you to view 5D3 files) and also to debunk the claims of a 1.5 to 2 stop improvement in high ISO noise.

For that, I've been called an "old school wedding photographer", who apparently don't push my camera to any limit worth a damn and a "fanboy".

How amusing. I suppose this is typical banter in the gear forums.

I've been very neutral and level-headed about the 5D3 as I am when discussing any type of gear. What gets old and tiring is the same individual(s) bashing on the 5D3...over and over and over again.

You can't realistically cheer for something that doesn't exist...

In the same vein, you can't realistically shred it either.

It's really nothing new: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=462416

Compare the image posted in post #2 and the claim made in post #5 (with accompanying chart no less...)

Everything (really) old is new again...

CR2 files exists, but yes, this is all speculation. We will know what the real deal is only when we get our dirty little hands on a 5D3. Bottom line.

Ok, I'll grant that they exist but from what stage in the development?

Frankly, there are several shooters here on POTN on whom I would rely far more with the camera in their grubby mitts than via anything posted by Canon before the camera hits store shelves.

True, true, true. I think the IR raws were from a pre-production unit.(?)
Again, we'll know when we get our hands on one.
Personally, so far, I haven't seen anything that would dissuade me from getting one. I am pretty content with the 5D2. Add a pro AF system and I am sold!

i can't figure out how to determine how many posts a particular user has in this thread, but i am guessing shadowblade is easily in the top 3, and 90% of his posts are about the same stuff.

i like repetition and all (hell, i own some LaMonte Young and Arnold Dreyblatt cds) but there's a point where it just becomes ridiculous, and we passed that long ago.

How much of what we are seeing is lens quality (or problems), and how much is sensor IQ? Isn't lens quality the dominating factor in an image's quality?

I have always been able to tell when a picture was taken with a bad lens, but have never been able to tell the difference in IQ between pro DSLRs...anyone care to elaborate? Aren't the 100% crops predominantly showing the lens quality over the sensor IQ?

Yea, lots of noise in this thread which is strangely ironic.

Go back up to the forum level. There's a "Replies" column indicating number of replies in each thread. Click on the number for this thread. Enjoy!

Who cares? There will always be someone in a thread that has more posts than others.

This is a thread about the 5D III. The meta is tedious at best.
