All that shows is the D800 sample had little/no noise reduction while the 5DIII sample had loads of it.

Some obvious noise reduction smearing going on. Why do they put out samples like this every time? Just doesn't make sense. It's not as bad as I expected, but my expectations were low. The samples are all jpegs and Canon has been saying that they've cranked up the in-camera NR to give jpegs an additional 2 stops. -- Ken

Shadowblade Cream of the Crop More info | Mar 02, 2012 00:50 | #413 Yep, now downsize the D800 crop by 1.3x on each side (to match the actual relative print size) and compare highlight to highlight, shadow to shadow. Then smear the D800 shot with heavy NR to match the 5D3 shot (since you can't un-smear the 5D3 shot for a proper comparison).

I also have $40k worth of Canon lenses that I wouldn't know what to do with... which is why I'm really hoping for a high-resolution body later this year. After all, they've already released two action bodies - 1Dx and 5D3 - one after the other, while the high-res body - 1Ds3 - hasn't had an update for five years. I am not sure why a lot of people are calling you a troll, but looking at your pictures and the type of business you do, you obviously need the high MP count for your big prints as oppose to FPS. With your huge investment in Canon lenses, I hope Canon releases something that serves you; unfortunately, I dont think we will see a 1Ds4 or 1DV Canon 5D II - Canon 16 - 35 f2.8L II - Canon 70 - 200 f2.8L IS II - 430EX II

Mar 02, 2012 00:53 | #419 Well, after taking some time to read through DP Review's hands-on preview, I can honestly say that I'm impressed with the features and design. I'm not a big fan of the price, but it will certainly come down. Later in the year, there will sales and coupons. When it dips below $3,000, even if it's just for a day, I'll be there to place my order.

I've been using it on the 7D since that camera was released and there's nothing gimicky about it. That is a very useful feature that will be even more useful on a full frame camera that is better suited to landscape and architecture work. -- Ken
