from this link (external link)

from the article :

Extremely low noise, fabulous dynamic range, and a sharper, more tonally balanced picture is the result. Canon have made the anti-aliasing filter thinner to get higher quality

Check the CPN site (a lot of great stuff) and photos therein. Image #12 of the image portfolio at ISO 25600 is outstanding! I am sold. Period.

EDIT: And read the Ascough's blog; when he says that he shot "images with 25600 and it is as good as 6400 on the 1DIV", I believe him....

Wait for RAW files guys...The jpegs never look as good, even with the 5D2. So much better detail with RAW, along with much less aggressive NR.

That depends on the camera's firmware. Most crop sensor camera's blur fine details like the 5D even in Raw.

That's obviously over cooked. :p

I can post 5D2 iso 6400 shots that look better than that.

Reminds me of 7D :o

The ISO 6400 shot reminds me of drawing with crayons.

Tell you what, if you can give me a good reason why you are in a thread about a camera you loath, I will stop bugging you?

Why why why are you here?

They've also said in their press release that it's less weather-sealed than the 1-series.

In other words, also less weather-sealed than the D800, D700 and D300. No word yet on how it compares to the 7D's weather sealing.

Shadowblade, c'mon man, we fully understand that you find the D800 to be a superior camera so you don't need to push this agenda into nearly every post you make. When it's a 5D MIII vs. D800 conversation, your comments completely apply. But it really gets stale when you constantly throw it out there.

You're an amazing and very talented photographer. And based on the type of shots you produce, you definitely need to the resolution that Nikon is currently providing, or perhaps that which a medium-format or large-format camera can produce. But please, let folks have a conversation without pushing Nikon so hard.

Bryan

I have read a hands on review that said the AA filter is actually weaker. Not sure how true this is, but I am thinking the new jpeg NR is to blame. I mean, that is all they talk about. 2-Stop noise benefit with jpeg..... equals more, stronger NR.

In camera NR is useless IMO. It is all going to come down to the detail preserved in the RAW files. If there is good detail then with good NR techniques (not just blindly applying a huge amount of NR across the entire image) the images will be fine.

I can only say, "it looks like the 5D has grown up" finally. I'll wait until it's out in the wild before making any decision though. I really want to like it. Though the AA filter is causing a little concern.

Bingo. We're looking at jpegs that have been processed in the camera. Who shoots that way now-a-days? I have always shot RAW and always will.

Let's just hope they are not going to be blurring the Raw files like the 7D.
Also you would think these guys were shooting with NR off, so it shouldn't be applied even in Jpg
