Can anyone tell me how many iterations of bracketing this new camera will do?

3, 5, 7 is what I heard.

I am inclined to agree that the D800E has some significant advantages over the 5D3, the 5D3 has some advantages as well.

Some...

themadman wrote in post #14009020 (external link)
1. If I prefer Canon lenses

Agreed, but that's in favor of the system not the camera.

themadman wrote in post #14009020 (external link)
2. If I prefer the 61 point af with 41 cross types over the Nikon's 51 af points with only 15 cross types

So do I and I am looking forward to using it in my 1Dx. I don't, however, feel that there will be any real world difference between the two pro-level AF systems.

themadman wrote in post #14009020 (external link)
3. If I prefer the increase shooting speed

As would I which is why I list that as one of the few Canon advantages.

That said a Nikon D800 with a grip costs the same as the base 5D3 and is only 1 FPS (20%) slower... ;)

It isn't a clear victory for the D800E.

IMO it's pretty definitive in this particular race. Lop $500-$700 from the 5D3 price and you've got a contest.

Again, I'm not talking about most of us. I'm a Canon guy because I've invested $10K+ in the system (and you'll have to pry my 85L and 70-200II from my cold, dead fingers) so if I were to buy in this price range the 5D3 would be the one.

I still reserve the right to make that decision once the dust has settled and sample images (high res, high ISO raws, please) can be had from the 1Dx and 5D3.

But for a new buyer without an investment in either camp it's a pretty clear choice...

You have some nice G lenses man. Why?

Instead of funding the second system I think I might get the 200 f/2G. Continue my "G" prime collection. :p

I am going to get this, when the body drops below 3K (refurbished, used, whatever).

So people who want to get the 5D III, love the new amazing AF and increased IQ/ISO performance.
People who "hate" it and/or don't want to buy it, not enough MP and too expensive.

the more megapixel people are hard to satisfy !

Not for someone with a 1Ds Mk3 maybe, Julian, but the improvements to the AF alone make this an upgrade to me.

I can't believe all the BS being talked...and no one has yet actually used it! A bunch of jpegs by god-knows-who and no personal experience with raw? Spare me!

I agree. I have to give Canon credit for something. The AF is improved on paper but, my biggest concern is low ISO performance. Will the banding still be there? Idk. :)

I have the D800E on preorder as well....actually two preorders. I hope one of them gets here fast.

From what I have seen in looking over all the photos today, I have seen some noise in the extreme ISO's, but no banding. Looks like the new sensor solved that.

I'm gonna pass on the 5D III for now. I'll let everyone post real world results first. :)

I'm waiting for the RRS L bracket before I consider it.
