Couldn't you order it from the States and have it shipped over for less?

Lucky for me, I'm actually popping by the US right after release so I saved $1200 on it. Pretty much paid for my plane ticket!

I mentioned that to another user and it was pointed out that the warranty wouldn't be covered in other countires. If they ever had an issue they would have to ship it back to the U.S. and deal with all that stuff.

Helen any info about 5D III kit (with 24-70L II) ?.

I had to cancel my 24-70 MK II pre-order with Adorama in order to get the 5D III. It killed me to do it since I think it is going to be a special lens. Though It should be easier to obtain then the 5D III. I'll pay off the camera and buy it in a couple of months.

Thanks Helen, good to know there are crazier people then me who order from 7 or 8 places :) I know about the release date, I am taking Canon's word for it that it will be released end of March. I am not going to complain to you if Canon misses that. My worry was that I would not get my camera with the initial shipment from Canon. The pre-order/back order thing, I wrote a response here recently https://photography-on-the.net …?p=14037753&postcount=216
pre-order is a pre-order and my intuition is that I am pre-ordering against your initial number of the items you expect to receive from the manufacturer. Then when you say back-order I took it as being you already have more pre-orders than you expect to receive in the initial shipment from the manufacturer.

What you received was an automated email which is sent out whenever a customer submits an order for an item which is not currently on the warehouse shelves.

We do not have any stocks of this brand new item; nor do any other retailers in the US.

While an ETA of 3rd week of April has been rumored, nothing is certain until it actually arrives! There are a multitude of factors outside of our control which can affect this, eg, Canon not shipping on time; importation issues; delays caused by poor weather etc.

With new releases and hard-to-obtain units, many customers place multiple orders across several retailers - often 7, 8 or more.
So if you imagine, the first retailer to unpack their delivery fulfils say 100 back-orders. Customers receiving shipping notices cancel their orders at all other retailers so everyone else on every retailer’s pre-order list moves up 100 places immediately.

If this pattern is repeated across 6 retailers on the same day, the person who was number 650 at the retailer who unpacks their delivery last will receive his unit the same day, even if he ordered from a retailer who only received a consignment of 50 units - and even if he placed his order 3 weeks after everybody else!

It sounds a bit simplistic, I know, but it is pretty much how it works.

Oh, they're crazier people then you............. ME! I'm sure Helen could attest to that. :) Though I only placed 1 pre-order, which was with Adorama, I completely screwed it up. I ordered 2 by mistake, used the wrong credit card, etc... She and Leah came to my rescue and took care of it in ASAP. Adoroma's CS is top notch as one of the main reasons I deal only with them.
And this isn't the first time they had to come to my rescue and I'm sure it's not the last!

When did Amazon begin accepting orders (time)?

Not sure of the exact time, but I know it was not a early as B&H and Adorama, which had preorders up right after the announcement around midnight. I got mine in with Amazon when I got up the next morning around 9.

Canon 5DIII, 7D, 40D, 8-14L, 24-70 f2.8L, 70-200 f2.8L IS, 24L, 50L, 85 f1.8, 100L, 135L, 1.4 Extender, Tokina 16-28 f2.8, and too many lights and accessories to list.

B&H was the first site that was accepting Pre-orders followed by Adorama about 20 minutes later and Amazon soon followed.

How do I know? I'm one of the nuts who sat there refreshing my browser until it showed up. :)

Not to mention I changed my shipping method. I am now paying 65.00 bucks for overnight shipping! That one still hurts.

(I gotta get away from this website). :) The wait is starting to kill me especially now that I have NO camera. (gotta change signature) 7D was sold this morning. :(

The good news is daylight saving time is this Sunday and we move clocks forward 1 hour. I'll take whatever I can get to in order to speed of the wait.

I'm sure in the next few days, I'll be posting that I cancelled my shipping and flew their to pick up the camera in person. Hell, it saves a day doesn't it??? Where is Adoroma? NY?

That's funny! I'll take the extra hour closer to delivery too! But I'm not selling the 7D until the MKIII gets here and is a rock star!

Good thinking. I bought my daughter a T3i for Christmas, so I guess I'm gonna have to steal it from her for the time being. :)

Too funny. I rather have the 65 dollar overnight shipping then a round trip airplane ticket. The new 5DIII will easily replace the 7D you have anyways so you made a good decison on that. Now as for me, I got tooo fight it.... Don't sell the 5D2 and 7D... Don't do it Koua... (well I'll have to sooner or later..LOL)

LOL, I had not thought of that. I have the 2 day free shipping with prime on amazon, but my dealer, if he gets it first will likely offer ground shipping (free) and I will end up upgrading to overnight at some cost.

Beverly in accounting just pre-ordered hers, she's pretty stoked. Nick in receiving still isn't convinced it's a large enough upgrade from his xt, he'll probably wait till it's out.

Huh? A Rebel XT? Not a big enough upgrade?

I ordered mine from Adorama and Amazon around 545am CST on March 2... I paid for 2 day delivery with adorama and overnighted it with Amazon. I wonder which order I should cancel.....

Any suggestions?
